On Sunday 5 November 2017, at least 26 people died and 20 others were injured in the
First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs, Texas. This incident marked the 307th mass shooting in
2017 and it was the largest mass shooting in Texas. The mass murderer of this event was Devin
Patrick Kelley, who was 26 years old. Kelley began shooting at the church early Sunday morning. On
Sunday, the church was having its morning service at 11 a.m. and the shooting began shortly after.
Kelley was armed with two weapons, a rifle and a handgun. One of the weapons Kelley was armed
with was a Ruger military style rifle (Montgomery, Mele, Fernandez, 2017). Immediately following
the shooting, an armed bystander shot Kelley and wounded him. Kelley dropped his Ruger AR rifle,
and was able to get in his car. Kelley was able to flee in his vehicle, but was later found dead after
running his car off of the road. Later, an autopsy showed Kelley had three gunshot wounds. One was

My middle school self spent her evenings in front of a music stand for which she was already too tall.
I would dive into that week s clarinet etude, punctuating the tune with squeaks and wrong notes, still
full mentally and physically from the dinner table offerings, food and academic discussion. My
parents expected my sounds only to improve. But then, in grade ten, I attacked multiphonics, playing
more than one note at a time, and erased that hope for improvement. To make up for my inability to
master the technique, I became an expert on the theory, which surprisingly contained mathematical
concepts. Two notes that sound good together have very simple ratios of frequencies. The notes I d
play together probably had ratios somewhere around 453/920. But I liked the theory more anyway.

My Observation Of Rum Middle School
Today we had our final school performance at Rum middle school. It was quite interesting to see the
difference between the reactions of the children of this school versus the other schools. Also, even
before we performed, we took a lovely walk through fields of corn planted right next to the school. It
was a little muddy but it was beautiful to see the rolling fields situated so close to the city of Rum. Just
an interesting fact that in a place where the boundaries of your city are the Alps you have to work with
the space you have. This does tend to make most cities very squished, but thin cobblestone streets are

not as filling. After this we had the opportunity to go to Innsbruck and shop around but as I mentioned
in my last note, Raphael, Josef s son, invited Will and I to come play fußball with his friends. His
mother drove us to their house and then we walked through a cow pasture to the fußball field. I will
mention that I am not in any way good at fußball/soccer. Raphael was incredibly good and his friends
were just as good. Will had played JV so I did feel like the odd one out; however, his friends were
very kind and didn t seem to mind that I wasn t the strongest player. I was determined to be a good
sport regardless and we still had a fun afternoon. I just want to mention that in all the schools we had
gone to the students had been told in advance that English speakers from a different culture were
coming, so they had been prepared with questions they would typically ask foreigners; however, since
the games we played with Raphael and his friends were so spontaneous and informal I thought I got a
good sense of the typical relationships between 15 year old friends. It was interesting to notice that
