Reaction Paper On Copycat Violence
THE COPYCAT REJECT

Shaudee Houshmand Dr. Piff

4 December 2017
The Copycat Reject
On Sunday 5 November 2017, at least 26 people died and 20 others were injured in the
First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs, Texas. This incident marked the 307th mass shooting in
2017 and it was the largest mass shooting in Texas. The mass murderer of this event was Devin
Patrick Kelley, who was 26 years old. Kelley began shooting at the church early Sunday morning. On
Sunday, the church was having its morning service at 11 a.m. and the shooting began shortly after.
Kelley was armed with two weapons, a rifle and a handgun. One of the weapons Kelley was armed
with was a Ruger military style rifle (Montgomery, Mele, Fernandez, 2017). Immediately following
the shooting, an armed bystander shot Kelley and wounded him. Kelley dropped his Ruger AR rifle,
and was able to get in his car. Kelley was able to flee in his vehicle, but was later found dead after
running his car off of the road. Later, an autopsy showed Kelley had three gunshot wounds. One was
in the leg, one in the torso, and one in the head which was self inflicted.
The first social psychology theory that may explain this event is copycat violence. Copycat violence is
a social psychology theory which describes the imitation of a specific violent act that has been
depicted in the media. A well known form of copycat violence is suicide. A study illustrated the more
newspaper space that was devoted to suicide showed an

Examples Of God s Greatest Evil In Their Eyes Were...
God s Greatest Evil The Heart s Desire There are two tragedies in life. One is not to get your heart s
desire; the other is to get it. In Zora Neale Hurston s novel Their Eyes Were Watching God, Janie
Crawford struggles to find true love. Throughout the novel, she marries and estranges from three
different husbands. The first husband, Logan Killicks, seems to be Janie s first true love, but he turns
out to be weak and lazy. Janie s second love Joe Jody Starks beats Janie both physically and mentally,
and Jody overrules her with his obsessive need for power. Lastly, she marries and moves away with
Tea Cake after Jody dies. Tea Cake was Janie s final and only genuine love. Throughout the novel, the
author validates the critical lens of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Tea Cake comes into the store in Eatonville where Janie worked at, and she is automatically interested
his charm: She was in favor of the story that was making him laugh before she even heard it (Hurston
90). They quickly fall in love with each other as Tea Cake treats her like a real woman. Tea Cake
respected her and made her feel better about herself, something Logan and Jody had never done: ...
she found herself glowing inside. Somebody wanted her to play... she looked over and got little thrills
from every one of his good points (Hurston 92). Tea Cake lets her play checkers and didn t treat her as
an object or lesser than himself. Soon enough, Tea Cake and Janie fall in love, move to Jacksonville
then to the Everglades. Tea Cake gives Janie everything she s ever wanted. He teaches her to shoot a
gun, and doesn t care Janie has a better shot; he does not care for the power over Janie that Jody did.
Tea Cake drives Janie to find security in herself and find her own independence. Janie is finally
herself with Tea Cake; however, the novel quickly proves the critical lens when a rabid dog bites Tea
Cake. Tea Cake was trying to save Janie from drowning a river after a hurricane hit the Everglades. He
had to fight away a mad dog, and he was bitten in the face. His health quickly declines within a
mouth. He begins going mad and accuses Janie of not loving him and cheating on him. Before

The collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991 and the dawn of...
The collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991 and the dawn of Chinese economic reform under Deng
Xiaoping in 1978 promised to produce somewhat parallel long term results for two of the world s
largest economies. Although China and Russia mirrored each other in the nature of the transitions they
were undertaking at the time, their trajectories for future economic and political change are now
diverging. Despite the fact that both China and post soviet Russia would ultimately tip the scale away
from central economic planning toward market based systems and global integration, the approaches
and circumstances surrounding these economic shifts are completely different. Initially, Russia s
implementation of shock therapy under Yeltsin in 1992 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The USSR had experienced two decades of stability under Brezhnev, but this era was coupled with
rising corruption and weighty foreign policy issues like the US arms race and the invasion of
Afghanistan. Contrasting economic preconditions of the movement toward market based models also
influenced patterns of change and development in Russia and China at the end of the 20th century. For
example, by the close of the 1980 s, Russia stood as a seasoned industrial power with a sizeable, well
educated, urban labor force. Militarily, it was on par with the United States and had developed a
strong presence in science and technology development. Contrastingly, when China began its own
transition almost a decade earlier, at the end of the 1970 s its economy was still predominantly rooted
in agriculture. 80% of the nation s population (as compared with 15% for Russia) consisted of
uneducated agrarian peasantry, and the country had little stake in industry or scientific innovation. In
the wake of the soviet state s collapse, Russia faced a dropping population and a deficit of available
labor, while China s population was considered very large relative to its productivity. Though these
demographic factors allowed for cheaper, more readily available labor in China, Russia vastly
outstripped China in terms of natural

Greenhouse Gases Research Paper
14. Describe three methods for the control of greenhouse gases. Which method, if any, is likely to be
most effective? The three methods for the control of greenhouse gases are from the textbook on page
274 (Friis, 2012, pg. 274):
a. Limit transportation by car (Drive less) less driving means fewer emissions.
b. Turn off your lights and appliances Save electricity and reduce global warming by turning off lights
when you leave a room, and using only as much light as you need.
c. Limit use of hot water buy low flow showerheads to save hot water and about 350 pounds of carbon

In my opinion, I believe all methods mentioned above will be effective but limiting the use of cars
may be the most effective because every gallon

The Seven Day Mental Review Of My Listening Skills
Listening is a skill that is not regularly taught in schools. Therefore, I found that analyzing my
listening skills taught me a lot about myself that I did not know before. I kept track of my self talk and
inner voice, did a seven day mental review, did the HURIER listening profile, and assessed how I
listened in different social situations and listening contexts and what listening contexts I experienced
the most. I also learned about my strengths as a listener being understanding and interpreting. My
weaknesses were hearing and remembering. Additionally, I created some listening goals that I would
like to accomplish this term.
During the seven day mental review, I made some interesting revelations about myself relating to
listening skills. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I feel like I barely remember academic concepts unless I repeat them over and over. For example, I
usually make flashcards to study, which really helps, but only for classes that have terms and
processes that lend themselves well to it. I also fill pages of notebooks with rewritten notes to help me
memorize them and my phone is full of random reminders. As stated in the textbook, Remembering is
essential if you intend to apply what you have heard in future situations (Brownell p 13). There is no
point in learning concepts if I cannot remember them to apply to future situations. For example, in
Tuesday s lecture somebody noted a concept that I thought would enhance the content of my essay.
However, I cannot remember what was said or who said it. I also have a hard time remembering
conversations that I have had with my friends. Therefore, I would like to enhance my remembering
ability in both social and academic contexts. As stated above, I would like to work on memory skills,
as well as responding skills. Responding is just as important as effective listening. The idea
surrounding responding is that Your partner makes judgements regarding the quality of your listening
based largely on the nature of your response (Brownell 13). The response is what provides feedback to
the speaker and allows the conversation to

Examples Of Monologue Of Lady Macbeth
Tomorrow, and tomorrow, and tomorrow / creeps in this petty pace from day to day. These are words I
reflect upon during this terrible time of anguish and grief. We gather here in sombre circumstances;
the loss of an honourable wife, queen and woman that has added another casualty in nature s bloody
rampage. Tragically, over these past few months we have seen the deterioration of a great woman
whose conscious ran deep, deeper than many here would have truly suspected.
Lady Macbeth, an intelligent woman, years before her time was the epitome of grace and elegance.
Even with all of Lady Macbeth s beauty and grace she was as strong as Birnam Oak. Without Chuck
by my side today, I fear I am a lesser man. For without dearest Lady Macbeth, I would not be the man
or king I am today. Now when I return, I will not be greeted by the love and strength I cherished ...

At a moment s notice, Chuck could have the entire household prepared ready greet our guests with
honour and politeness. Calm and collected up until her demise, she was a woman of great character
and noble demeanour. Never lacking in wisdom or support in my endeavours, Chuck s words, sweet
like honey, will be how I remember her now.
Tragically, Chuck s past haunted her, clinging to her hands and heart. No matter how hard she tried,
she could not wash away the pain or the demons tormenting her. The soul of Lady Macbeth was
blackened by the devil s touch, a touch that led to a desperate act and end.
As I reflect upon her death, I realise the distance that begun to separate Chuck and I in the time
leading up to her tragic fate. Before her demise, we were one soul in love and life, however, the
decaying of her mind saw us stand at opposite ends of the kingdom. This terrible fact of our separation
at the end of her life will haunt my conscious for eternity, how did a woman I loved so dearly became

Compare The Gambling Environment
When considering the proliferation of gambling advertising it is important to compare the gambling
environment established before deregulation and the extent to which it has changed post deregulation.
The problems affiliated with gambling are not a new phenomenon, as such considerable research has
been done to mitigate and control the derived negatives (Eadington, 2012). Applying age restrictions,
promoting easily accessible helplines for those with a problem, self exclusion programs and limiting
access to gambling have met with success and led credence to the belief that gambling is no longer a
focus for criminal activity or a form of glamorous extravagance (Delfabbro, 2011). However since the
sudden deregulation of gambling, advertising

Geoffrey Wright, an El Paso architect, describes Henry Trost s grand design of El Paso High School
incorrectly as a renaissance revival in a 1991 article in the Austin American Statesman. Although he
was mistaken in this observation, he made another observation that was correct, which is that the
eastern façade of El Paso High School s six humongous columns, on top of it s bases and adorned with
acanthus leaves, is most definitely a design of the Classical Revival style. He also went on to state,

aspects of ancient architecture that are hard to spot at first glance but upon further scrutiny one would

The only differences between these two structures is that El Paso High School s east façade is
enclosed on both of the far ends and only has one engaged column on either side, while the Maison
Carée s façade has an open ended side which is supported by multiple columns. The Maison Carée
also sports a pseudoperipteral façade that runs around the building and El Paso High does not have
this feature. El Paso High School has a few engaged columns in certain areas around the school
although they are not a highly important feature, I think. El Paso High School also shares a few things
in common with one of Rome s most famous temple s, the Pantheon. Both buildings have a vestibule
above the pediments, which connect the porticos to the building itself. El Paso High s vestibule
connects each structure at a rectangular L shaped 45 degree angle. Although the Pantheon utilizes it s
vestibules by connecting the dome to the portico. On the frieze of El Paso High School the name of
the high school is inscribed in a similar fashion as the inscription on the Pantheon s frieze. The
inscription reads, M. AGRIPPA L. F. COS. TERTIUM. FECIT, translating to, Marcus Agrippa, son of

What Is Openstack And Its Importance
Service Providers and enterprises need to ensure that their networks remain a relevant and important
part of users everyday experience, and deliver added value in new and unique ways. How new
technologies like cloud, Software Defined Networking (SDN) will help them do this and efficient
management across network resources and cloud application. In this paper we have talked about what
is Openstack and its importance and briefly explored three major Openstack projects Compute,
Storage and Network and discussed their capabilities. Secondly we have mentioned three different
approaches of SDN Cloud convergence. How SDN proves useful in cloud environment and achieve
high flexibility and higher innovation. The also paper presents an alternate architecture that combines
SDN and Cloud Architecture. 1. Introduction: Traditional network model requires tremendous
commitment of hardware resources, dedicated budgets along with managing On premise datacentre.
The enterprise or the IT industry is dependent on its own computing, storage and networking
capabilities. Effective solution for the traditional networking model is Cloud. Cloud computing is on
demand service. Virtualizing network resource for providing users with the required bandwidth and
level of service they expect is the promise of Cloud. There are quite a few cloud service providers who
offer cloud services to manage computing and storage resources. But the IT industry and others have
to pay for the service. Openstack can be

Anti Porn Feminist Research Paper
The feminist movement is thought to be the drive to end women s oppression, be it a biological
woman or an individual who identifies as a woman. However, many feminists have varying ideas
when it comes to women in the sex industry. In today s society we are taught to look down on sex and
to act as if it is something to be ashamed of. Anti porn feminists believe that pornography degrades
women, can lead to violence against women, and that the women involved in pornography are
mentally damaged in some way that they can not give actual consent to take part. I am a pro sex
feminist. I believe that a woman should have the right to do with her body as she pleases, whether that
be to cover it up completely, or to bare it all for the world to see.

Marcez Mejias
Lament for Ignacio Sanchez Mejias by poet Lorca is an elegy for the dead bullfighter told through the
eyes of the poet himself. Lorca s poem demonstrates how the narrator of the poem guides what the
reader knows and does not know through the use of a first person point of view. The images and
emotions experienced through narrator allows one to compare Lorca to a movie director or an editor.
Lorca uses a first person point of view in order to demonstrate the lament for the dead as they
deprived of the achievements that could have been theirs. Lorca uses a first person point of view
throughout the poem to reveal the narrator s initial feelings of depression towards the untimely death
of his close friend Ignacio Sanchez Mejias. In the first ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, as the poem continues, Lorca shows how he will gradually learn to accept death as it is an
inevitable process of life. However, the narrator fails to explain why these two are such close friends.
This forces the reader to create his or her observations on why they are close. One assumption is that
Lorca is exploring his homosexuality under the conservative Spanish society.
Lorca s powerful emotions and images throughout his poem enabling his readers to also experience
what he experienced throughout the use of first person. One can make a strong argument that Lorca
can be compared to a movie director or editor. Just like how a movie director chooses what scenes to
shoot and how they are shot, Lorca chooses how he wants to portray the images and emotions
throughout the poem.
Throughout the third section of the poem Lorca laments on how Mejias losses out further
achievements because of his early death. Lorca writes, All is finished. What is happening? Lorca asks
what happens after death, a common theme throughout his early poems. Here Lorca laments for
humanity as death shuts humans out of fulfillment that could have been theirs if they were still

Mystery Of Iniquity Poem Analysis
Ramani Goode
Professor Dubose
Eng 102 02
07 November 2017
Mystery of Iniquity
The first line in the poem is a phrase that is found in Bible: 2 Thessalonians 2:7 For the mystery of
iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way. Which
means the lawlessness, discrimination, and immoral is already working. Lauryn Hill is rightly
regarded as one of the most exciting and original talents of her generation. As singer, songwriter and
rapper, she first came to prominence as a member of the hip hop trio the Fugees, before launching a
short lived but impactful solo career. She is also regarded as one of music s lost geniuses, avoiding the
limelight and the studio to raise her five children with Rohan Marley, son of reggae legend Bob. Right
now, with a life that has involved no shows at concerts and a prison sentence, it doesn t look like she ll
be adding to her five Grammy awards (The Biography.com website, 2017). The poem speaks about
how messed up and crooked the court system are towards African Americans.
Inequity is lack of fairness or justice. The history of inequity is something people is running after but
will never be able to catch. Lauryn Hill describes it as The American Dream and how it is creating an
illusion around the U.S. The illusion is making people obsessed with success and allowing the
government control them. This paper will focus on the injustice of African Americans. Lauryn Hill
have great songs that inspire many music artists. In the Mystery of Iniquity Lauryn Hill talks about the
history of inequity which is exclusionary, discrimination, and immoral behavior.
Mystery of Iniquity is one of the powerful poems ever written by Lauryn Hill because she speaks on
exclusionary. Exclusionary is relating to or characterized by the exclusion of something, especially
from a contract or group. When Lauryn Hill talks about the expert witness (the paid authority) the
expert witness gets on the stand and tells the jury what they want to hear. The jury doesn t even bother
to question some of the shaky points. They just want to go home and mostly likely didn t want to be
there in the first place (Genius, 2017). The witness is feeding the jury a story

By starting with which type of customer to target, the organization can be more focused on its tactics.
Alternatives
1. Do nothing. There is not much of a pro to this solution, because by doing no sort of action will
either result in the business failing and closing down, or that could cost the marketing senior vice
president her position. 2. Reward Program for businesses. By instituting a reward program with
businesses, it will allow business travelers to stay at the hotel for a discounted price for Sunday
through Thursday lodging through his or her place of employment. Instead of attempting to find the
best rate. The company knows that when an employee goes to this city, he or she will stay at the
Amber Inn and the company books it for the employee. This will increase the business traveler base,
which is already predominant. However, this will decrease the overall revenues for the organization. 3.
Increase weekend prices. By increasing lodging prices on the weekends, it will not harm the business
traveler base, and increase profits for the personal and vacation/pleasure areas. This could adversely
affect the number of guests staying at the hotel on the weekends and drive the weekend revenue
stream down. 4. Increase average daily room rate to be more toward industry average. Since the
survey says that only 36.6% stayed at the hotel based on price and the fact that majority of business
travelers had the rooms paid for by the

Accounting For Proceeds From The Issuance Of Convertible...
1.The differences in accounting for proceeds from the issuance of convertible bonds and of debt
instruments with separate warrants to purchase common stock.
Convertible debts are long term securities which can be converted into issuer s stock options at a
specified conversion ratio, if the debt holder wants to exercise them. Convertibles include bonds and
preferred shares, but most commonly take the form of bonds. Convertible bonds are a type of
compound financial instrument with characteristics of both liability and equity.
Convertibles are appealing to investors who are looking for an investment with greater growth

Convertible debt and debt with stock warrants differ in that: (1) if the market price of the stock
increases sufficiently, the issuer can force conversion of convertible debt into common stock by
calling the issue for redemption, but the issuer cannot force exercise of the warrants; (2) convertible
debt may be essentially debt, whereas debt with stock warrants is debt with the additional right to
acquire equity; and (3) the conversion option and the convertible debt are inseparable and, in the
absence of separate transferability, do not have separate values established in the market; whereas debt
with detachable stock warrants can be separated into debt and the right to purchase stock, each having
separate values in the market.
When the debt instrument and the option to acquire common stock are inseparable, as in the case of
convertible bonds, the entire proceeds of the bond issue are allocated to the debt and the related
premium or discount accounts.
When the debt and the warrants are separable, the proceeds of their sale are allocated between them.
The basis of allocation is their relative fair values. As a practical matter, these relative values are
usually determined by reference to the price in the open market. The portion of the proceeds assigned
to the warrants are accounted for as paid in capital. The result may be that the debt is issued at a
reduced premium or at a

Compare the way Goldhagen and Browning present the...
The events which have become to be known as The Holocaust have caused much debate and dispute
among historians. Central to this varied dispute is the intentions and motives of the perpetrators, with
a wide range of theories as to why such horrific events took place. The publication of Jonah
Goldhagen s controversial but bestselling book Hitler s Willing Executioners: Ordinary Germans and
the Holocaust in many ways saw the reigniting of the debate and a flurry of scholarly and public
interest. Central to Goldhagen s disputed argument is the presentation of the perpetrators of the
Holocaust as ordinary Germans who largely, willingly took part in the atrocities because of deeply

Using such specific examples will help clearly highlight the difference in opinion of the two authors
and the way in which Goldhagen tries to show the members of the Police Battalion as Ordinary
Germans who were Willing Executioners , while Browning presents them as Ordinary Men reacting to
a certain set of specific circumstances.
Goldhagen s view of the perpetrators of the Holocaust can be seen as super intentionalist in the way he
views the German population to have largely willingly colluded with the Nazi regime because they to
held the same eliminationalist anti Semitic views. To make this point, he uses what he sees as the
willingness of ordinary, largely untrained and unindoctrinated Germans in the Reserve Police
Battalions to carry out mass killings of Jews (Goldhagen: 1997:206). This means he portrays the
perpetrators of the Jozefow massacre as willing executioners and goes at great length to show them to
simply be ordinary Germans based on their political, socio economic and geographical background
(Goldhagen: 1997: 213). Central to Goldhagen s argument that the Policemen massacred Jews
willingly, is their reluctance to excuse themselves from the operation when given the opportunity. The
main opportunity in which to do this, is the moment before the massacre, when Major Trapp (the

Brutalism Research Paper
The New Brutalism is a term coined in the 1955 by Reyber Banham in his essay Architectural Critic in
December 1995. In this essay Banham endeavour to summarise this (at that time) new emerging
movement. Banham described how this movement has caused some polemics and critics. For some,
Brutalism does not fulfil the standards of classical aesthetic. As Thomas Aquinas said beauty supposed
to be quod visum placet(that which seen, pleases), image may be defined as quod visum perturbat that
which seen, affects the emotions, a situation which could subsume the pleasure caused by beauty.
Brutalism recognised both by the Brutalist and their critics as being anti art, or any rate anti beauty in
the classical aesthetic sense of the word. That statement

Methods Of Learning Algorithms For Groups Based On Their...
2.1.3 CLUSTERING: Among the available clustering methods, K Means algorithm is generally used
to divide learners into natural groups based on their behavior for a larger dataset. In the K Means
clustering method, the number of clusters, denoted by K is needed to be predefined to apply the
technique. This is one of the simplest and the most used unsupervised learning algorithm for
clustering. The procedure follows a simple and easy way to classify a given data set through a certain
number of clusters (assume k clusters) fixed a priori. The main idea is to define k centers, one for each
cluster. These centers should be placed in a cunning way because of different location causes different
result. So, the better choice is to place them as much as possible far away from each other. The next
step is to take each point belonging to a given data set and associate it to the nearest center. When no
point is pending, the first step is completed and an early group age is done. At this point we need to re
calculate k new centroids as barycenter of the clusters resulting from the previous step. After we have
these k new centroids, a new binding has to be done between the same data set points and the nearest
new center. A loop has been generated. As a result of this loop we may notice that the k centers change
their location step by step until no more changes are done or in other words centers do not move any
more. Finally, this algorithm aims at minimizing

`` All Star Superman `` And `` The Yellow Wallpaper ``
Right from the start of All Star Superman, we are introduced to colorful panels that integrates the use
and symbolism of colors. Throughout written literature, from Red Wheelbarrow to The Yellow

that symbolism in the comic book medium makes sense, since color can be shown instead of
conveyed. To try and establish the colors meaning in All Star Superman, we can look at it s repeated
use and try and determine what the pattern between them is. Take for example the color purple: on
pages 146 147, the funeral is done out in purple; another example is on page 236, Regan is wearing
only purple. Between those two situations, the connection ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We see more of this same example on pages 92, 96 and 197, as in that they are all green panels that
occur on or near the moonbase. On page 219 221, we are in Superman s lab, which has a green
background very similar to that of Quintum s lab.
This use of green is not limited to backgrounds or outfits either. From pages 48 50, Lois Lane is
preparing to use a kryptonite gun on Superman. The item itself is primarily green and fires green mist,
which also makes sense because kryptonite is green. On page 106, we see Luther fiddling with a
device that is a mobile library. When this device speaks, even its speech bubbles are done out in this
green shade. This scientific symbolism makes sense here too, as these are very scientific machines.
Jumping ahead to the use of another color, we have yellow. Whenever yellow appears in this comic, it
is usually in regard to very powerful, ultimate things. Take for example page 149. On page 149, the
leader of the Superman Squad (who is presumably an older, original superman) gives the modern,
original superman an indestructible flower. The leader and the flower are both a golden yellow, which
gives both of them a feeling that they are powerful and mysterious. On page 40, Superman is making
miniature suns to feed to his sun eater. These suns are a similar shade of golden yellow, and

Characteristics Of People Born In Different Generations
From war hero conservatives to righteous college protesters to tech savvy teenagers, there are defining
characteristics of people born in different eras. Many do not realize how much their environment and
its history impacts them as a whole. The progression of history changes the conditions entire groups of
people grow up in, which leads those groups to differ from each other in life. This type of group is
called a generation. Each generation has its own events that happened in its lifetime (Ovadia). As a
result, they all have widely differing characteristics and views that come from things like the state of
the economy, current technology, parenting style, war, politics, or even the media; and all of this
changes after a period of time (Neal). There are different generations in every country or part of the
world because of how many cultural and historical contrasts there are between nations. Modern
America s living generations are called the G.I. Generation (or the Greatest Generation), the Baby
Boomer Generation, Generation X, and the Millennials. The reason why none of them are exactly the
same is the fact that none of them have truly experienced, or will ever experience, what the other ones
have grown up with or, in most cases, without (Ovadia). People born into different generations are
influenced by various factors within their era and generally develop based on those influences. Before
understanding generational differences, it must be understood what a generation

Beta Zeta Case Study
Many of you might be wondering who is currently responsible for leading Beta Zeta. The answer is
really three groups all of which play a critical role in the future of Beta Zeta Chapter. These groups
include: the Purdue Sigma Nu Alumni Association (PSNAA), the Housing Corp, and the Alumni
Advisory Board (AAB). Each group has a clear role, a leader, and several other Beta Zeta alumni
involved (or soon to be involved). These three groups will work closely together in the next few years
and beyond as we work to build a chapter that s stronger than ever. The PSNAA is responsible for the
alumni and is led by the Worthy Commander Michael J. Johnson, BZ 1734. PSNAA s responsibilities

Affirmative Action Essays
The affirmative action program is important because it gives job opportunities for many people
regardless of their race, color, religion, gender, and national origin. The work force should be well
represented by the different ethnic backgrounds of our society. Some people look at affirmative action
as reverse discrimination, but this program doesn t guarantee employment based on race, ethnicity, or
gender. The affirmative action program gives equal consideration to individuals from a different race,
ethnicity, or gender, but not one of these factors may be the only factor used to determine an
individual s qualifications for any job.
The biggest dispute of the program is the belief that the policy allows less qualified candidates to ...

The truth of the matter is that many people climb the corporate ladder because they are associated with
the right people whom are making executive decisions that make a difference. The government
intends to provide equal opportunity based upon the individual s merit. Affirmative action provides
qualified individuals with a variety of job opportunities; this program could be viewed as another
avenue to excel in a career or towards a higher education.
In many occurrences, minorities have been discriminated because it has been the custom not to hire
them. Many city police and fire departments traditionally did not hire blacks; many craft unions did
not accept black members. Many big companies did not hire blacks for higher positions; instead,
blacks were hired as kitchen assistants and janitors. When these kinds of patterns are evident,
affirmative action and quotas may be valid tools to respond with.
Cannon 3
The use of affirmative action and quotas was demonstrated in 1983 in hearings held by Representative
Don Edwards (D Cal.) and Patricia Schroeder (D Colo.). Alabama has seen dramatic changes in black
employment in public agencies over the past decade. Judge Frank Johnson of Montgomery, Alabama
contributed to these changes.
Johnson established a quota on temporary hires. The quota was at 25 percent and the quota was met,

Analysis Of My Neighbor Totoro
The way Hayao Miyazaki entices his viewers to accept his idea about a new relationship between
nature and humanity was never really talked about or discussed in the past couple of years. The film
My Neighbor Totoro, with all the religious elements and the social impact it had established the
director Miyazaki as one of the best animators not just in Japan, but around the world. What really
gives this film power and fame is not just the mysterious and magical world it has or the cute character
that Miyazaki created, but also the film s way of influencing the audience by conveying an unfamiliar
message about this three layered relationship between nature and humans. Comparing both Miyazaki s
childhood memories and the story depicted helps him connect the audience s feelings with the
characters and making this realistic representation of human emotion in the film believable and
realistic not only to children, but even to adults. What also makes the world more familiar to the
spectators is the director s use of a common fear from many people s early years in this unknown and
magical world. This common fear is clearly illustrated when the girls meet Susuwatari, a black spirit
in the old empty house that stays in dark spaces and prefers to be left alone, and only children can see
it. The introduction of this spirit is a good transition between the world of magic and reality. It
confirms and insists about the existence of the unknown, and introduces a world of illusion and

Essay On Project Management
1. Introduction
The modern concept of project management had been introduced in China through Lu Buge
hydroelectric power station project since 1982. Through this modern management method, numerous
of project resource had been saved, and the project planning become more accurate. Nowadays, it has
been used into numerous complex megaprojects. The national stadium is an eye catching project in
2008 Beijing Olympics portfolio. However, it has several vital project management issues occurred.

originally predict accommodations was 91,000 visitors, including 10,000 temporary seats. The
stadium dominated 258,000 square meters of space and was constructed with 36 km of unwrapped
steel, weighting about 45,000tonnes. The surface of the National stadium was designed by covering a
colossal saddle shaped elliptic steel, with a hanging roof. The steel structure spend 42,000 ton high
quality steel, After July in 2004, the project had been suddenly stopped by order of the national
government, during the construction break the whole project had been redesigned, and the roof was
eventually removed. It took five years to finish this project. The project closed out on June 2008(Ren,
2008, p. 175).
2. Analysis of Issues
The objective of the stadium can be considered as two levels including national level and project level.
For the national level, the stadium is designed for a landmark building by mixture of Chinese art and
traditional cultures. This is also to increase the recognition and awareness of 2008 Beijing Olympic.
For the project level, the construction needs to meet all technical requirements and all athletes
demands. (Ke, 2014, p. 90 91). Also, the objective of such a project should be aligned with the
organization s strategic objective (Rodney, 2010, p. 39). The Chinese government, as the main sponsor

Prozac and Paxil
Marketing Anti Depressants: Prozac and Paxil
Introduction:
The expiration of Prozac s patent necessitates swift, defensive action from all companies in the SSRI
industry. As generics enter the market, demand for more expensive, branded medications will fall as
price sensitive consumers switch to the cheaper alternatives. Additionally, incident prices on
consumers themselves, in the form of copayments, will rise as insurance companies pressure their
constituents to switch to more cost effective offerings. To overcome these obstacles, we recommend
the following to both GSK and Lily:
1. A decisive repositioning of the brand to emphasize its advantages over market substitutes.
2. The rapid deployment of new inclinations to support ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Similarly, Lily should put heavy emphasis on their new, weekly variant of Prozac. Additionally,
following the introduction of generics, Prozac should focus its marketing strategy around PMMD.
Basis for Recommendation:
The population of people suffering from the two adds up to 9.3 million Americans (minus overlap for
people who suffer from both), about 6.5% of the adult population in America (Exhibit 5). With the
incredible versatility Paxil has had treating various conditions, these two aforementioned conditions,
both relatively new, have not gotten the attention from GSK that it really should garner given the fact
that no other company can attract people in this state. GSK must look to re position itself as a figure
head, a trailblazer in the field of SAD and GAD to build a strong market share now and develop brand
loyalty to off set, as best they can, the impending downturn brought on by future generics for the
product.
Based on the regression we conducted using data from Exibit 12 , we believe that DTC advertising
presents an effective way to increase both company s bottom lines. Looking at the data for
prescription drugs, a $1 million investment will, on average, yield a $14.6 million increase in sales for
the product alone. That is a pretty sizeable increase and the model proves that there is a strong
correlation between DTC advertising and sales. This does seem reasonable, especially given the
companies proclivity toward

The Volcanic Eruption Of Mount Tambora
In the New York Times article A Volcanic Eruption That Reverberates 200 Years Later, William J.
Broad discusses how the volcanic eruption of Mount Tambora, the most powerful eruption in recorded
history (Broad) played a role in icy weather, agricultural collapse, global and pandemic and even gave
rise to celebrated monsters. (Broad) In April of 1815, Mount Tambora, located in modern day
Indonesia, erupted killing tens of thousands of innocent people. As a result of this eruption,
investigators found that the giant cloud of miniscule particles spread around the globe, blocked
sunlight and produced three years of planetary cooling. (Broad) Moreover, the planetary effects [were]
so extreme that many nations and communities sustained waves of famine, disease, civil unrest, and
economic decline. (Broad) In other words, there was a distorted pattern of weather that lasted
approximately three years; thus ensuing cold weather, darkness, and even blizzards directly affecting
the growth of crops which led to more loss of life. In particular, the summer of 1816 also known as the
year without a summer, is credited for not only paintings of fiery sunsets and tempestuous skies, but
also the birth of Mary Shelley s Frankenstein; or The Modern Prometheus. Furthermore, it is this very
freakish event of nature that sets the tone for the theme of nature in Frankenstein. Nature, as the
setting to create, nature that soothes, and nature that destructs.

Advanced Computational Problem Solving
My middle school self spent her evenings in front of a music stand for which she was already too tall.
I would dive into that week s clarinet etude, punctuating the tune with squeaks and wrong notes, still
full mentally and physically from the dinner table offerings, food and academic discussion. My
parents expected my sounds only to improve. But then, in grade ten, I attacked multiphonics, playing
more than one note at a time, and erased that hope for improvement. To make up for my inability to
master the technique, I became an expert on the theory, which surprisingly contained mathematical
concepts. Two notes that sound good together have very simple ratios of frequencies. The notes I d
play together probably had ratios somewhere around 453/920. But I liked the theory more anyway.
The noises made the math real. I started listening for matching frequencies, and would agitate my
band friends by blurting out fractions in the middle of songs.

Quantum Technology Essay
While the current leaders in the field of quantum computing are undoubtable Google and IBM they
tend to keep the details of how their quantum computers to work a secret, only releasing the
capabilities of their current machines occasionally. So, instead we must look to D Wave, a Canadian
company that was the first to commercially sell quantum computers, specifically their most recent
model, the 2000Q. This machine isn t quite the super computer that was hypothetically brought up in
the previous section, but instead, according to the company s website it is hyper focused on a single
task, finding the minimum value of a complex system [10]. Like all quantum computers, it uses qubits

The other quantum aspect to this computer is that the quantum states may overlap with neighboring
magnets, which to put straightforwardly, means that they can act collectively [11]. This is important
because there could be a scenario where an individual magnet flipping would cause the energy state to
increase while several flipping at the same time would cause the energy state to decrease [11]. This
switch of several simultaneously would ordinarily be highly unlikely, but due to the quantum states
overlapping there is a much higher probability of this occurring [11]. Though cooling the chip down to
near absolute zero the magnets will realign themselves many times, each time at a lower energy state,
eventually reaching what is very likely the correct solution [10] To account for the fact that it isn t
guaranteed to be the best answer the computer will return several values scaled to show which if the
answers is optimal [10]. The black box housing the chip not only houses the cooling unit, but also
helps to regulate many other environmental factors. One of the more important ones is that it shields
to 50,000 times less than Earth s magnetic field which is very important considering that the qubits are
themselves small magnets [10]. It also reduces pressure to ten billion times lower than standard
atmospheric pressure which makes sure that there aren t stray gas particles floating around in the
magnetic fields [10]. And one

Movements And Counter Revolutions And Revolutions
Movements and counter movements, revolutions and counter revolutions, this is the story of human

associated institutions, Marx s famously commented liberal conceptions of justice and equality often
result in unequal results rung as a corner stone argument of opponents of Neo Liberal economics. The
story of the Occupy Movement, while regularly citing Marxist arguments in its critique of neo

fight to re include economic equality in the discourse of human rights. In Fact, the Occupy Movement

range from significant income inequality to fundamentally altering the discourse associated with
human rights. To fully understand Neo Liberalism, Capitalism and Globalization, it is important to
understand the preceding ideology. For the purposes of this paper, Colonialism and Imperialism will
be briefly explained, in an attempt to set context for discussing Occupy s creation and its goals in
relationship to Neo Liberalism. Simply put, Colonialism is the practice of overt domination of another

Should Hpv Be Made Compulsory For Everyone And Whether Or...
Introduction
Throughout this report I will look at evidence from multiple sources in order to gain more knowledge
of the Human Papillomavirus as well as the vaccine for it. My report question is based around, should
HPV be made compulsory for everyone and whether or not it should be given at such an early age?
My report will include aspects on how it works, what HPV is and what it does, How other biological
systems such as the immune system contribute, and the side effects of HPV and the vaccine for it. This
will be followed by the discussion of two alternating viewpoints for the vaccine and what scientific
evidence they have for their cases. As of the start of this report I am completely for the HPV vaccine
but this may or may not change towards the end of the report. My report will be rounded off with my
own personal thoughts and a strategy on what can be done in the future.
Basic information on HPV

Analysis Of Physicalism And What Aspect Of It Jackson Targets

1. The best aspect of my paper is the discussion of physicalism and what aspect of it Jackson targets in
his article.
2. My discussion of Jacksons response to Churchland s argument is a bit weak and I know I should go
back and look at it.
3. Explaining what physicalism is and Jackson s responses to it in detail while respecting the page

4. Should I talk more about the different types of physicalism?
In his article What Mary Didn t Know Frank Jackson comes up with a convincing argument, which
challenges physicalism, a theory of the mind, and its validity. In this paper I will look at Jacksons
argument, specifically his second premise, and whether or not his conclusion follows it. I will also
attempt to present the objections, which he presented to his paper and the replies he builds against
them.
Physicalism is the idea that the physical facts are all of the facts; which implies that if you know all of
the physical facts you know all facts. Physicalism is a type of substance monism and there are several
different kinds of physicalism, but it is not necessary to go into the specifics because Jackson targets
the validity of physicalism as a theory of the mind and not a specific type of physicalism.
Jackson s argument against physicalism, also known as the knowledge argument, is as follows:
(1) If Physicalism is true, then, for any domain, knowing all the physical facts in that domain is
knowing all the facts in that domain;

Voting Behavior Analysis
They found that as a precinct has more renters or more non white voters, the turnout under VBM
elections decreases, although at different rates for different election types. Having higher rates of
college graduates in a precinct is correlated to higher turnout rates under VBM. This study was one of
the first to consider who VBM might benefit, as opposed to the less complex question of increasing
general turnout. While this research is indicative of who VBM might benefit, it relies on precinct level
data, and cannot effectively determine if individuals voting behavior changed under VBM. Berinsky,
Burns, and Traugott (2001) extended this line of research on demographic effects by looking to the
individual voting level to determine who VBM benefitted ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Perhaps there is something intrinsic to the state that causes the effects we have seen, such as increased
turnout for special and local elections, or increased retention of high resource voters. To this end, the
work of Kousser and Mullin (2007) is beneficial. In California, every precinct with under 250
registrants is designated a VBM precinct. This includes two full counties, and many other precincts
throughout the state. Thus, the authors used California as a natural experiment to investigate the
effects of VBM in the 2000 and 2002 presidential and gubernational elections. To alleviate concern
from lack of random assignment, they matched precincts as closely as possible by political context,
partisan composition, and racial composition. Consist with the findings of Gronke and Miller (2012),
the authors found no positive effect of VBM on turnout in these elections, and in fact found that VBM
decreased turnout. This effect was small, but statistically significant. However, the authors conducted
a separate experiment, matching several counties that used VBM or polling place elections to consider
the effect VBM might have on local special elections (those which fill a seat or consider a local
proposition). To this end, their results are consistent with the reviewed literature since Southwell and
Burchett (2000) to indicate an increased turnout in special elections. The authors postulate that getting
the ballot in the mail may increase the salience of a local or special election, essentially serving as a
reminder to vote when the election is not particularly salient. This serves as an excellent explanation
for the indications of all studies I have reviewed that investigated special or local elections and found
turnout increases under VBM. Perhaps it is not the convenience of a mail ballot, but in fact the
salience that tends to increase turnout. This also offers an

I Am Sam (rated PG 13 by the M.P.A.A. for language ) will be released in Los Angeles and New York
on December 28th, 2001 and wide on January 25th, 2002.
about the story
I Am Sam is a powerful, emotional film about love, parenthood and the bonds of family. I m
fascinated by what makes a family and how people create that in untraditional ways, says director and
co screenwriter Jessie Nelson. I think all parents at times feel confused and overwhelmed. It is a
common bond between every parent on the planet, whether you re disabled or not. Parents who are
disabled provide a unique metaphor for how we re all trying to get through an incredibly challenging
world and how we all ultimately need some type of support system.
Raising a child is never easy, but like everybody, Sam Dawson (Academy Award nominee Sean Penn)
has learned to adapt. Sam and his daughter Lucy (Dakota Fanning) have gotten through the basics,
though not always in the conventional way, with the help of Sam s tightly knit group of friends.
Though Lucy s life has never been what anyone would ever call normal, it has always been animated
with humor and full of love.
Lucy and her dad go to IHOP on Wednesday, video night on Thursday, karaoke night on Friday, says
Dakota Fanning, the 7 year old newcomer who plays Lucy Diamond. They just have the best time
together.
But when Lucy

Perception Is Everything By Toni Morrison
Perception is Everything
Perception is everything. People never know what is going on with the another race or side. In Toni
Morrison s Recitatif she brings up racism and the societal normal. She never reveals the race of either
of the girls in this story. Never knowing the race of the girls other than they are two different races
shows how one race never knows that the other is thinking about or where they are coming from. In
this story, two girls meet from very different back grounds and different races and become friends,
then go separate directions. They continue to meet throughout their lives and try to rekindle the
childhood friendship as adults. This shows how children do not know the differences or the color lines
that society has put into place. As children, gender, race, and religion is never an issue. Racism is
something that society has created. Society has made racism one of the main barriers throughout the
world. In the story, the two girls are friends and live in a group home. The girls are witnesses to some
bad things carried out by the older girls in the home. They end up separating and going different ways
in life. When they meet up later, while rekindling their relationship they begin to reminisce about their
childhood. They come to find out that their perception and memories do not exactly match up. The
way things are perceived can change an outlook on life; after finding out how others see the same
situation, it might change who you are and what you

Mayella Ewell Power Quotes
Power may be obtained in many ways. It can be obtained in race, gender, or class. In this case,
Mayella Ewell, a white female, lives in a dump. She only has power in which is regarding to her race.
To Kill A Mockingbird, a book made by Harper Lee has a character named Mayella Ewell. Mayella is
a white female who has been savagely beaten with a left hand. She is the daughter of Bob Ewell.
Mayella Ewell has power in her race. Regarding her race, she doesn t have power due to her social
class or her gender. Mayella Ewell doesn t have power in her social class since she is poor. The author
states, Maycomb s Ewells lived behind the town garbage dump... (Lee 17). This quote explains how
Mayella doesn t have power in regards to her class because of her and her family live behind the
towns dump. The text states, He thought he d be a hero, but all he got for his pain was... okay we ll
convict this Negro, but get back to your dump (Lee 18). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While she is white, Tom Robinson is black. And this means that people have never seen a judge rule
for a colored person before. The excerpt states, Now don t you be so confident, Mr. Jem, I ain t seen
any jury decide in favor of a colored man over a white man... (Lee 19). Since Mayella is white she has
more power than Tom because he is black. The meaning behind the quote is that whites have more
power than colored people do. The author says, The witness realized his mistake and shifted
uncomfortably in his chair. But the damage was done. Below us nobody liked Tom Robinson s answer.
Mr. Gilmer paused a long time to let it sink in (Document E). Since Tom Robinson is a colored male,
he showed that he had felt sorry for a white person. He should never feel bad for a white person
because he is the opposite race and it s not good for him to be showing sympathy of his opposite race.
Mayella has power for being white. Being white back then just means that you re more superior than
colored people
