PCS Requirements
•Students are permitted to do their problem
centered study in a national or international
organization.
•While selecting the organization students
should make sure that these organizations are
registered with some governmental/quasi-
governmental agency in order to ensure that
the organizations are real and not fictitious.
18-06-2024 3

Type of Organisation
•These organizations may have a general functional
department or more than one functional department
like production, marketing, finance, human
resources, information systems etc.
•Expected to find organisations on your own, on or
before “DATE”
•Finalize organisations and inform OCR & PGP
accordingly.
•Delay in start of project work will disqualify the
candidate to undertake viva-voce
18-06-2024 4

What is expected in a PCS?
•Real application of the research methodology
in identification of a business
problem/research problem.
•Its analysis , findings and suggestions.
18-06-2024 5

How to Begin:
•Select a variable of your interest
•Or Start from Problem given to you
•Look for real reasons behind
•Minimum of two variables required.
Dependent –Focus of study
Independent –for explaining “WHY”

Theories -Bridges Between Independent
and Dependent Variables
Independent
Variables
Dependent
Variables

Sources:
•Articles published in Journals
•Use databases like EBSCO, QUESTIA;
PROWESS; DELNET; JGATE

How to begin?
•search based on “dependent variable” (i.e the
focus of the study)
•Read as many number of articles as possible
•Better to have more than one Indpt. Variable
•Summarize what you have read

Eg1: Low conversion rate
•Only 42% of walk-in buy
•Discuss with Decision Makers (DM’s)
•Possible reasons
–Lack of inventory
–Sales force not supportive / Service Quality
–Is it a seasonal issue?
–Too many outlets

Eg2:-
on Performance*
Customer Orientation (SOCO)
Service Orientation
(SERV)
Adaptability
(ADAPT)
of insurance advisors
* Measured in actual Rupee value of business obtained

The Title for this study could be:
The Influence of Relationship-Oriented
Characteristics of Sales people on Individual
Performance

Tool for data collection:
•Adapt tools developed by other researchers
(standardized)
•Sources:
–Articles (Journal) from databases like EBSCO…etc
–Marketing/Finance/HR reference books in scales

Definitions:
•Theoretical Definition
–Adapted from ref. books or researches
•Operational definition
–Must be adapted from “tool author”.

Sample size & Analysis Design:
•Sample size (Minimum): 175-200
•Use Multivariate statistical tools for analysis

Report format
•Introduction
•Review of Literature
•Problem statement
•Significance of the study
•Title and objectives
•Hypotheses
•Theoretical and operational definition

Report format (contd…)
•Scope of the study
•Research Design
•Sampling design
•Tool for data collection
•Analysis design
•Analysis and Findings
•Scope for further study
•Suggestion and conclusion
•Plagiarism Report (Maximum similarity
possible –25%)

Plagiarism
•Send your PCS report to
[email protected] plagiarism
checking
•The similarity level in ‘turnitinreport’ should
be less than 25%
18-06-2024 18

Should have at least one
Independent and a dependent
variable.
Try avoiding simple percentage analysis.
Refer published (in good journals) as it
brings in minimum quality
18-06-2024 19

Many organisations may give old
student projects for you to
copy..please resist
This is the strongest factor for
student failure
18-06-2024 20

Don’t fudge organisation
certificates
This will lead to sure failure
