They are our property .” – Napoleon Bonaparte “ Women should be obscene and not heard .” – Groucho Marx “ So it is naturally with the male and the female ; the one is superior, the other is inferior ; the one governs, the other is governed .” – Aristotle “ The relation of male to female is by nature a relation of superior to inferior and ruler to ruled .” – Plato 11/29/2016 3

But, REALITY….. Women make up 80% of all refugees and displaced people. 603 million women live in countries where domestic violence is not yet considered a crime . According to a 2008 study by US Department of Labor, women earn 20% less of what men earns. 40% of businesses have no women in senior management. 11/29/2016 7

11/29/2016 10 D omestic R estrictions: Restricted to their home and their primary role is to take care of household chores. The maximum percentage of working women can be seen as health workers, educationist, clerks or any other low paid job that are not much preferred by men because of the lack of growth opportunities and low pay-scale . Female dominant environment . After all day of work at office, no matter how tired they are, they also have to look after domestic chores.

11/29/2016 11 Married Working Women: It becomes difficult for them to maintain work and household chores equilibrium because of increased responsibility . Traditionally, men are the bread earners of the house and it is not appreciable if women support the family financially or if women earn more than men . It is not possible for them to work in late hours. The majority of new mothers can’t balance between their works and their kids.

11/29/2016 13 M ental H arassment : Less capable and inefficient in working as compared to men. Gender bias creates obstacles in their recruitment. No one thinks of upgrading their skills with technological advancement which makes it easy to terminate woman’s employment and hire other persons. Women’s issues do not occur on the priority list of most of the trade unions.

Women in the Workplace : Fear of O ppression and E xploitation. S exual H arassment. 11/29/2016 14

11/29/2016 16 S ecurity, L ife and D ignity :  With more and more cases of physical assault, theft and abuse being reported in news channels, women need to learn the art of self-defense for their security. Many organizations have employed special security services for helping their women employees to get back home at late nights. Not just working women but every girl should always be prepared to face the wrath of uncivilized men and hence must equip themselves with defense mechanism.

11/29/2016 18 Rights and Law for Working women

11/29/2016 19     CONCLUSION: Technological advancement results in retrenchment of women employees. Women’s issues do not occur on the priority list of most of the trade unions. Public transport system is overcrowded and men take advantage of the circumstances to physically harass women. Colleagues offer unwanted attention which can still be shaken off if. There have been several cases of sexual harassment recently involving even the senior women officials. The psychological pressure of all this can easily lead to a woman quitting her job. A fundamental change is required in the attitudes of the employers, policy makers, family members and other relatives and the public at large
