Packaging Packaging may be defined as the group of activities for designing and producing a container or wrapper for a product. The container or wrapper is called Packaging. Packaging is the science, art and technology of enclosing or protecting products for distribution, storage, sale, and use.

Types of packaging 1. Primary packaging Primary  packaging is the packaging that most closely protects the product. It can also be referred to as retail or consumer packaging.

Secondary packaging Secondary  packaging is used for the branding and display of the product.  Secondary packaging is outside the primary packaging, perhaps used group primary packages together.

Tertiary packaging Tertiary  packaging is used for the protection and shipping of a product. Any company that ships any kind of good uses  tertiary packaging  in the distribution process. The most common form is a palletized unit load that packs tightly into containers.

Three r’s of Packaging 1. Reduce 2. Reuse 3. Recycle
