Production Process of T-Shirt

Introduction T-shirts are called so because originally t-shirt are developed from a tubular fabric. T-shirts are made of knit  fabrics. "T-shirt" surfaced in the United States when they were issued by the U.S. Navy sometime around the Spanish American War(1913) worn as underwear beneath uniform.

Raw Materials The majority of T-shirts are made of: 100% cotton, P olyester, cotton/polyester   blend

Flowchart of Production Process

Spinning of Yarn Cotton fibers are used to make 100% cotton yarn or sometimes polyester-cotton blending is done. Spinning of cotton is done on generally Ring Spinning Machine. Polyester being as a synthetic yarn is developed by extrusion process. Polyester-cotton blending may be done on combing machine.

Fabric Manufacturing Fabric for t-shirt is manufactured by Knitting Technique.  Circular knitting machine may be used . Knitting technique produces fabric in tubular form. Knitted fabric is mostly measured by weight of fabric.

Finishing After the cloth is knitted, wet processing treatments are done to control shrinkage of fabric and fabric is dyed according to our requirement. Bleaching is also done.

Cutting Patterns are made according to customer’s order Marker Making(closed markers are used but open markers for child’s t-shirts) Spreading of fabric Cutting of fabric Bundling

Stitching Garment pieces are stitched. Thread is used according to fabric characteristics e.g. cotton core polyester rapped thread. Sometimes only white color thread is used to avoid time wastage. Mostly superimposed seam is used with over end stitch. Bound seam is used for neckline.
