PRODUCTION TECHNOLOGY OF OYSTER MUSHROOM

Introduction Oyster mushroom is scientifically known as Pleurotus sp . In India also commonly known as “ Dhingri ’’ Oyster mushroom is the good source of diatry protein food. Oyster mushroom can be grown at tempreture 22to 25 °C and relative humidity 85 to 90 %.

Preparation of substrates The cultivation of O yster mushroom most cellulosic farm waste is used as substrate. These include Paddy straw, Wheat straw, Corn cob, Banana Leafs and Sugarcane Bagasse. Paddy Straw chopped into small pieces of size 2-3 inch for easy handling and operation .

Sterilization of substrates There are three method involve in sterilization of substrate: Chemical method Hot water treatment Moist heat sterilization

Chemical Method Procedure Take 100 litter of clean cold water in a sterilized cemented tank. Mix 120 ml. Of Formalin and 8 gram of Carbandanzim .

Take 10 kg. Weight of dry straw and soaked in water with mixed chemical solution for 14- 16 hours. and cover its air tight with a thick polythene sheet .

After soaking , take out straw and drain the excess water with chemical solution by keeping then wire basket. Spread the straw as thin layer spread on a sterilized raised platform. Shade dries the straw to get 60-65 % moisture capacity.

Mix the dried straw thoroughly to get a uniform moisture level in all areas.

The cultivation of oyster mushroom is usually carried out in transparent polythene covers. The size of the cover should be 60 x 30 cm. with a thickness of 80 gauges . Procedure Wash hand thoroughly antiseptic lotion. Bagging

Fill the straw to a height of 5" inch the bottom of polythene bag. Take a handful of spawn and sprinkle over the straw layer, concentrating more on the edges. Fill the second layer of the straw to a height of 5" and spawn it as above. Repeat this process to get 3-4 straw layers with spawns.

Gently press the bed and tie it tightly with a thread. Put 6 ventilation holes randomly for ventilation as well as to remove excess moisture present inside the bed. Arrange the beds inside the thatched shed, (Spawn running room ) following Rack system or Hanging system. Maintain the temperature of 22-25° C and relative humidity of 85-90 % inside the shed. Spawn running room

The fully spawn run beds can be shifted to cropping room for initiation of fruiting body. CROPPING ROOM
