GLOBALIZATION AND INTERCULTURALITY MEMBERS Marco Antonio Ramos Flores
What is G lobalization ? Globalization is an economic , social, political , technological and cultural process on a planetary scale , characterized by progressive integration and interaction between countries , people and institutions . The globalization process still continues, especially hand in hand with the development of computer networks (Internet) and new telecommunications technologies , which have brought geographically very distant populations and markets into contact .
Features of G lobalization The main characteristics of globalization can be summarized as: Internationalization of markets . Goods and services travel with great ease to any part of the world , and productive, commercial and financial capital circulates freely . Implementation of a global culture. Many communities that were never in contact are linked to each other and this pushes them towards a new model of culture less rooted in the local, which leads to the adoption of similar customs , values and artistic expressions throughout the world . Overcoming geographical barriers . The end of borders and the construction of a global society seem to be the final destination of globalization , since its processes do not pay much attention to territorial limits or nationalities .
Types of Globalization There are five types of globalization : economic , political , cultural, technological and social. The five types of globalization influence each other . For example , technological advances , such as computers and the Internet, drive the economy and this , in turn , influences culture, through the export and import of products and services . For its part , politics sets the course of the economy by establishing free trade agreements .
Economic G lobalization Technological globalization consists of the use of a common technology and technological content shared globally. Economic globalization is the aspect of globalization that is most advanced . It consists of the integration of national economies and the free flow of capital. Cultural Globalization Cultural globalization is the exchange of values and traditions between countries , which leads to the incorporation of non-native elements in each country, which , in the medium term , produces relative cultural homogenization . Political Globalization Political globalization is the process of implementing common political norms that are worldwide in scope . Technological Globalization
What is I nterculturality ? Interculturality is the social, cultural and communicative phenomenon in which two or more cultures or , rather , representatives of different specific cultural identities , relate under conditions of equality , without any point of view predominating over the others or being considered “ normal". These types of relationships favor dialogue and understanding , integration and enrichment of cultures.
Principles of Interculturality The principles of interculturality can be summarized as follows : There are no cultures that are better than others , nor more advanced , but all are equally worthy and deserving of respect . Therefore , the only way to understand a culture is to interpret it from its own criteria . Cultures are enriched by contact with others : the greatest manifestations of cultural richness and variety are associated with migration , integration , hybridization and miscegenation .
IMPORTANCE OF INTERCULTURALITY Interculturality is vital in times of massive migration and cultural plurality , such as globalization . It is basically about proposing instruments to rethink the traditional social, political and economic dynamics , in which one cultural group exercised hegemony over the others .
