SCHOOL of engineering AND TECHNOLOGY DEPARTMENT OF MEDICAL ENGINEERING BTECH. MEDICAL ENGINEERING STUDENT NAME: JEBET MARTHA REGISTRATION NUMBER: BTMD/170J/2019 YEAR OF STUDY: 4 UNIT NAME: TRADE PROJECT UNIT CODE - TMD 4407 PROJECT PROPOSAL TITLE: SMART RESUSCITATION DEVICE
INTRODUCTION Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is an emergency procedure performed on someone who has a cardiac arrest common for patients who have been; electrocuted, nearly drowned, in an accident, in cardiac arrest or collapsed suddenly. Main procedure of a CPR include; Chest compression - to facilitate blood circulation Administering breathes.
PROBLEM STATEMENT Chest compressions are usually done manually and are exhausting. The care giver might get tired and not be able to provide quality chest compressions. Medical personnel might get tired and stop giving chest compressions even when the patient has a chance of survival.
OBJECTIVE MAIN OBJECTIVE - To design, construct and test smart resuscitation device SPECIFIC OBJECTIVE To integrate the servo motor and compression block to ensure the device delivers precise and consistent chest compressions. To use the heart rate sensor and microcontroller to detect the patient’s heart rate and dynamically adjust the compression rate and depth accordingly. To incorporate the LCD display to present real-time data in a user-friendly manner that offers clear feedback to healthcare providers.
JUSTIFICATION This project is designed so that it can aid caregiver in CPR and give quality chest compressions, which helps increase chances of survival. Also, designed to be portable and cheap to be used in various settings such as out of hospitals, ambulances etc.
BLOCK DIAGRAM
EXPLANATIONS Sensor - heart rate sensor detects patients heart rate and provides real time data to microcontroller. Microcontroller - process data from sensor and controls the motor’s movement to required depth and rate. Motor - provide mechanical force for chest compressions. LCD - to display real time data. Compression block -mechanical part which comprises of a suction rubber cup and shaft connected to the motor. This is where the actual mechanical compression is done.

EXPECTED RESULTS Increased Probability of Survival - The project aims to provide consistent and accurate chest compressions at the recommended rate and depth Reduced Fatigue for Medical Personnel - the device relieves medical caregivers from the physically demanding task of manual chest compressions . Improved CPR Quality : The device ensures that the chest compressions are delivered consistently and accurately. This helps maintain the quality of CPR throughout the procedure, which is essential for better patient outcomes.
