Propagation structures I NTRODUCTION Plant propagation structure play vital role in propation of various seedlings and grafts in nurseries. this structure helps to maintain congenial climatic condition for better germinaion.
Types of propagation structures Green house Polyhouse Glass house Net house Plastic tunnel Mist chamber Hot beds Cold frames humidifiers
Green House Green houses are inflated structure covered with transparent material in crops are grown under controlled environment conditions.
Classification of Green House 1. Based on type of structure a. Quonset type b. Curved roof type c. Gable type 2. Based on glazing a. Glass glazing b. Plastic film c. Corrugated sheet d. Ultra voilet stabilized low density poly ethylene 3. Based on no. of span a. Single span b. Multispan 4. Based on environmental control a. Naturally ventilated b. passive ventilated
COMPONENT OF GREEN HOUSE Ridge - highest horizontal section in top of the roof Arches - Supporting covering material Gable - Transparent wall of green house Cladding material - Transparent material mounted on the walls & roof of the green house Column - Vertical structure carrying the green house structure Perlin - Who connects cladding supporting bars to the columns
Under green house one can grow crops under controlled environment throughout the year four to five crops can be grown due to availability of required plant environmental conditions . Advantage of green house pest & disease can be effectively controlled in the growing enclosed area. Self employment for educated youth on farm can be increased
Polyhouse Polyhouse is widely used for propagation off season seedling which fetch better price in the market Modern polyhouse are automated for temperature and humidity control to assist propagation In poly house , thermostat , hygrometer , automatic ventilation system is maintained to facilitate micro climate . Irrigation and fertigation system in polyhouse is automated to provide measured quantity of water and nutrients in plants.
NET HOUSE Net house is a mechanical structure made using galvanized steel covered by nets or insect nets. Such net houses allow an only appropriate amount of heat, air and moisture to pass through them to create the required climatic conditions for the better growth of the plant. This way the net houses allow the plants to grow the healthiest.
Mist chamber Nursery plants propagated by cuttings are grown in mist chambers . In mist chamber relative humidity is maintained artificially at high level 95% with the help of mist installations , which spray water under pressure. An enclosed structure that uses mist installations to artificially maintain high humidity levels for plant propagation
HOT BEDS A hot bed is a bed of soil enclosed with glass or plastic frame . It is heated by manure , electricity , steam or hot water pipes. Hot beds are used for forcing plant for raising early seedling. The frame of hot bed made of concrete blocks which acts as an effective insulator but obstruct light.
Cold frame A cold frame is bottomless box with a removable top. It is used to protect small plants from wind , low temperatures, frost, and heavy rain. The cold farme is made with frame and the cover .
Humidifiers A humidifier is a device that increases moisture in a single A humidifier is a device that increases moisture in a single room or an entire building. The main purpose for adding humidity for green house is to create an environment where plants will thrive . this capability will pramote increased health and productivity within the green house by “eliminating plant water stress”
