JAW RELATION RECORD

(A)Trim mx block
•Lip and cheek support
•Incisal length
•Reference point: Junction of mx vermillion and mucosa of the lip
•Length = 1mm below reference point
•Occlusal plane
•Use fox plate
•Antero-posterion: // to ala-tragal
•Medio-lateral: // to interpupillary line
•Mark midline
•95% correlates with philtrum of lip
•Smile line
(B) Trim md block
•Vertical: OVD= RVD- predetermined FWS
•Horizontal: blocks touch evenly at centric relation
(C) To take relation
•Mx locating notches
•Not parallel to each other - 2 per side is sufficient
•Smear vaseline
•Md place pyramids of heated pink wax/aluwax
•Pt bite in centric relation
(D) Facebow
(E) Tooth selection
•Colour - moisten teeth
•this is the patient’s choice - not yours
•Size - measure old denture with dividers/ figure 8
•Height - smile line
Profile
-Nasolabial angle
(increased angle = decreased lip support)
-Sinuous lip shape
Frontal
- Philtrum
- Vermillion area (1mx:1md)
-Wrinkles (want to decrease)
- Nasolabial folds (want to decrease)
Also use ear lobes
Make sure not to lose vertical dimension- biteblocks
should still touch without any wax in between. Heat up
wax thoroughly and only place posteriorly, thus can check
anteriorly if they still touch.
-6 ant = corners of the mouth
-Distal 3 —> distal 3 corresponds with canine eminence
-Tip canine corresponds with canthus/ala

(F) Lab instructions
•“Please arrange teeth”
•Colour
•Mould

Centric relation (position): a maxillomandibular relationship, independent of tooth
contact, in which the condyle articulate in the anterior-superior position against the posterior
slopes of the articular eminences; in this position the mandible is restricted to a purely rotary
movement, from this unstrained physiologic, maxillomandibular relationship the patient can
make vertical lateral or protrusive movements it is clinically useful repeatable reference.
