INTRODUCTION If a piece of rubber is overused beyond the limit of its elasticity ,it gets spoiled . Similarly, if an individuals suffers anxiety frequently due to stressful situations and is not able to cope with it,she /he is maladjusted or has developed abnormal personality functioning.

Cont… Psychopathology is commonly discussed as disorders of personality that deviates from normal activity ,cognition and behavior . Personality is the unique pattern of traits which characterizes the individual ; that is each person has his own characteristics which make him differ from the other person .

Mental health Mental health includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel, and act, and helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others, and make choices

Mental illness Mental illnesses are health conditions involving changes in emotion, thinking or behavior (or a combination of these). Mental illnesses can be associated with distress and/or problems functioning in social, work or family activities.

Types of personality DSM IV TR has given the types of personality disorder as paranoid,schizoid ,borderline and etc. Paranoid personality – person with a paranoid personality suspects other people will harm him . Schizoid personality – are quiet ,withdrawn remain aloof ,cold and indifferent ,social detachment ,neither desires nor enjoys close relationship.

Cont… Schizotypal personality – interpersonal deficits,believe in social isolation ,magical thinking and paranoid . Anti social personality – manipulative ,seductive and disregard rights of others ,lie frequently . Borderline personality – impulsive ,self destructive and have fluctuating attitude towards others .

Cont… Histrionic personality – emotionality , exhibitionism ,egocentricity ,sexual provocativeness , dependence , suggestibility and aggressiveness. Narcissistic personality – arrogant ,lack in empathy ,have exaggerated self worth . Avoidant personality – social and occupational situations that involves significant interpersonal relationship .
