Introduction 1. Purchasing is the buying or acquiring goods and services on behalf of a business or company.   2. It is an organized process within a business that ensures that the company acquires the items that it needs, when it needs, and at a reasonable cost. 3

What is purchasing process??? 4

5 5

• A vendor is a broad term encompassing any individual or a business entity that directly sells final products to the final consumer. • Its basically third party that perform functions on your company’s behalf or provides service to your company. • Example:1.Internet service 2.Bought out items 3.Service providers 4.Metalising 5.Staionery vendors 6

• Supplier is an individual or entity that provides goods service or material to another organization. • They play a crucial role in the supply chain by sourcing, manufacturing, or distributing products to meet the demand of their customers. • A supplier is usually known as either the manufacturer who manufactures the product itself or a distributor who purchases the goods from manufacturers. 7 What is Supplier???

8

9 Based On Roles In The Supply Chain 1 – Manufacturer It refers to a person or company producing finished goods from raw materials or adding value to them for selling. A manufacturer can act as a supplier to wholesalers and retailers that will be selling products to consumers. 2 – Wholesaler It is the individual or company supplying products and services to other businesses. Here, retailers buy goods in large quantities and at feasible discounts. 3 – Retailer It purchases products directly from the manufacturer or a wholesaler and sells them to individual customers. The individual or business fixes the selling price, thereby making a profit. 4 – Service and Maintenance Provider It provides services in the fields of  accounting , banking, insurance, consulting, transportation, etc. 5 – Independent It could be a person or company or a trade show representative selling products directly to consumers.

Based On Client Base 1 – B2C (Business to Customer) It sells product components or final products directly to customers. Example:Amazon.com / Dmart / Wallmart . 2 – B2G (Business to Government) It sells products and services directly to the government by obtaining a vendor license and special permissions based on contracts. E xample   :Construction of buildings, highways, and infrastructure. 3 – B2B (Business to Business) It deals with products and services sold to other suppliers. Example : If a shoe brand wants to sell its products, if it sells to large stores or boutiques, that's B2B, but if the brand sells directly to individual consumers, that's B2C 10

Platform from where I do find Vendors and suppliers 1- E Commerce T he standard definition of E-commerce is a commercial transaction which is happened over the internet. Online stores like  IndiaMart , Amazon, Trade-India are examples of E-commerce websites. 2- Vendors approved by Customers 3 - From Local Market 4- Importers 5- Via Reference/ Suppliers Catalogues 6- Telephonic Directories 12

A Few questions are to be answered before attempting to develop vendors 1.How much time is available for making such purchase? 2.Will Material be required repeatedly or occasionally? 3.What is the volume of purchase of the required materials? 4.Which is the industry producing the required materials? 5.What is commercial viability of the Material? 13

• Based on the answers, a list of potential supplier is drawn. • For the Purchase of items that are repetitive nature, a detailed evaluation procedure of suppliers is adopted. • For a one-time purchase ,Elaborate inquires and evaluation procedures may not be necessary unless item is costly and having high technological contents. 14

15

Negotiation, selection and finalization of vendors/Supplier 1.The vendors who are successfull in the enquiry stage may be called for negotiations in order to discuss business possibilities. 2.During this stage, Various terms namely credit ,quantity discount, quality specifications etc. can be decided. 3.Finally a list of approved vendors/supplier drawn. 4.Accordingly ,purchase order are placed to them and accept the material as per delivery terms and book the invoice. 16
