PARADISE LOST JOHN MILTON
JOHN MILTON (1608-1674) born on December 9, 1608, in London English poet, pamphleteer, and historian, considered the most significant English author after William Shakespeare . best known for his epic poem "Paradise Lost."
“PARADISE LOST” Milton considered many topics for his epic. in the mid-1650s, Milton returned to an idea he had previously had for a verse play: the story of Adam and Eve. In 1656 the blind Milton began to recite verse each morning to one of his two daughters, who wrote his poem down for him. In 1667, Milton published “Paradise Lost” in 10 books (first edition), and later on revised it in 12 books in was published in 1671 (second edition).
CHARACTERS: Adam- the first human, the father of our race. Eve- the first woman and the mother of mankind. God the Father- One part of the Christian Trinity. God the Son- Jesus Christ, the second part of the Trinity. satan - head of the rebellious angels who have just fallen from Heaven; poem’s antagonist.
CHARACTERS: Michael- the chief of the archangels. Raphael- one of the archangels in Heaven, who acts as one of God’s messengers. Uriel - an angel who guards the planet earth. Gabriel- one of the archangels of Heaven, who acts as a guard at the Garden of Eden. sin and death- satan’s children.
