RAGHURAJPUR LOCATION: Raghurajpur is a heritage crafts village on Odisha state, 10 kms from Puri and 55 kms from the state capital Bhubaneshwar .
RAGHURAJPUR ABOUT: There are about a 100 houses in the village and almost everyone is an artisan. They are Pattachitra painters, an art form which dates back to 5 BC. They also make traditional masks, stone idols, paper mache , sculptures, wooden toys. Some of these artists have also won National Awards for their exceptional work.

PATTACHITHRA PAINTINGS MAIN ATTRACTION IN RAGHURAJPUR IS PATTACHITHRA PAINTING. The pattachitra paintings are made over a piece of cloth known as Patta or a dried palm leaf, which is first painted with a mixture of chalk and gum. Over the prepared surface, colorful and intricate pictures of various Gods, Goddesses, and mythological scenes with ornamentation of flowers, trees and animals are then painted . EVERY PAINTING CONTAINS MEANING IN IT.

Tassar Painting Tassar Patta Painting is one of the oldest style of painting in Orissa, India. Originally painted on palm leaves with natural pigments it was used as wall decoration in ancient temples. Painting is done on Tassar (silk) which is a natural fabric. These paintings potray a large variety of themes, from religious and mythical narratives. Each piece can take the artists weeks to produce and in some cases, with the larger pieces, up to six months.
PALM LEAF ENGRAVING Palm leaves have long been used as writing materials. It was introduced in the Cuttack district of Orissa and traditionally was practiced by the Chitrakar families of Raghurajpur . the legends of Ramayana and Mahabharata, images of gods and goddesses, the nature and wildlife themes are presented. Vibrant visual vegetable and mineral colors are used. Romantic figures drawn on small leaves now serve as bookmarks in today’s times.
