Reasons For Group Formation By Bec , Bec , Bree , Meika

Locality/geography You may join a group based on the fact that it is in the local area.

Gender You may join a group according to whether you are a male or female based on social etiquette.

Shared Interest/ Common Goal These groups may form because group members have a particular interest such as a hobby, artistic or sporting talent and or a common goal. St. Vincent De Paul Volunteer group

Security Being part of a group provides us with a sense of security. They may be formed in order for members to gain a feeling of security such as neighbour hood watch groups. They also share a common interest

Sexuality Groups may be formed on a person’s sexuality. For example gay and lesbian groups.

Specific Needs This type of group forms in responses to a particular need, it may be temporary and the group disbands when the need is met.

Social Interaction Groups may be formed with a primary goal of social interaction including a gathering at a party, work social club or a mothers group.

Culture The group may form from a particular culture to enjoy communicating in a native language, eating traditional food and experience activities familiar to this culture.
