Reduplication

The process of word formation.Reduplication is one of the creative way in English that have made many words into English dictionary.

2. R eduplication Is a process of forming new word by doubling a morpheme . Ex / fifty-fifty , dillydally , hubble-bubble .

3. Reduplication The term “ Reduplication ” includes three meanings : 1- The process . 2-The result of the process.(new word) 3- The element repeated. The repeated word is the basic or originating morpheme. The new word is called twin-words.

4. Type of Reduplication Total Reduplication as in clop-clop and tick-tick. Partial Reduplication : 1-ablaut/vocalic reduplication: ex/ chitchat , zigzag. 2-Rhyming reduplication: ex/ willy-nilly , walkie-talkie.

5. Originating Morpheme The Originating Morpheme : Often Second half as: dilly -dally. First half as : tick tock . Both halves as : singsong. Neither halves as: boogie-woogie.
