VISIBLE LIGHT

In a sheet of paper, write the word, "AMBULANCE ” the way it is written in an ambulance car. AMBULANCE

Why is the word, “AMBULANCE” written in reverse?

REFLECTION OF LIGHT IN PLANE MIRRORS

OBJECTIVES : 1.Predict the qualitative characteristics of images formed by plane and curved mirrors and lenses. ( S10FE-II-g-51) 1.1 . Determine the height, width, and the distance from mirror of the image formed by plane mirrors. 1.2 . Describe the images formed by plane mirrors .

Please sing with me…

In your own words, what do you mean by reflection? What does the song tell us?

It means that who you see in the mirror is not always the person that you want to be. That your reflection in the mirror is someone else that is being hidden from the world...the REAL you. Not the person you want others to see and like. What does the song tell us?

Message/Lesson: “Always be True to Yourself” . Just be who you are. What does the song tell us?

is the bouncing off of light rays when it hits a surface like a plane mirror. REFLECTION

GROUP ACTIVITY MIRROR, MIRROR, ON THE WALL …

GROUP ACTIVITY Directions: Determine the height, width, and the distance from the mirror of the image formed by plane mirrors.

GROUP ACTIVITY Materials: 1 plane mirror 1 graphing paper 10 one-peso coins ruler, pen

GROUP ACTIVITY Procedure: Let the mirror stand vertically along a line of graphing paper as shown in figure 1. Using a pen, make three (3) different marks along the intersections on the graphing paper in front of the mirror. Figure 1. A Plane Mirror on a Graphing Paper

PROCEDURE 3. Measure the distance of each mark from the mirror by counting the number of parallel lines between the mark and the base of the plane mirror. Record your data in table 1. 4. Look at the images of the marks formed by the mirror. Measure the distance of each image from the mirror by counting the number of parallel lines between the image and the base of the mirror. Record this also in Table 1

PROCEDURE 5. Stack 10 pieces of one-peso coin in front of the plane mirror as shown in Figure 2. Using a ruler, measure the height and width of the stack of coins. Measure also the height and width of the image as seen on the mirror. Record your measurements on Table 2. Figure 2. Stack of Coins in Front of the Plane Mirror

DATA Table 1. Distance of the Object and Image from the Mirror MARK Number of Parallel Lines MArk Between the Mark and the Mirror Between the Image and the Mirror Mark 1 Mark 2 Mark 3

DATA Table 2. Height and Width of Object and Image Description Object Image Height (cm) Width (cm)

GROUP ACTIVITY Guide Questions: Q1. Refer to table 1, compare the distance (number of parallel lines) from the mirror of the object with that of the image.

GROUP ACTIVITY Guide Questions: Q2. How do the height and width of the object compare with the height and width of the image?

GROUP ACTIVITY Guide Questions: Q3. Based on the activity, is the image formed erect? What type of image formed? Real or virtual

ANSWER Q1. The distance (as indicated by the number of parallel lines) from the mirror is the same as the distance of the image in the mirror.

ANSWER Q2. The height and the width of the object is the same as the height and width of the image as seen from the mirror.

ANSWER Q3. The image is erect. The type of image formed is virtual.

Image Formed in Plane Mirrors i ) The image is erect. ii) The image is same size as the object. iii) The image is at the same distance from the mirror as the object is in front of it. iv) The image is laterally inverted. v) The image is virtual.

Image Formed in Plane Mirrors Virtual Image– “Not Real” - is basically image which cannot be visually projected on a screen. - Image only seems to be there! - ALWAYS on the OPPOSITE side of the mirror relative to the object.

Lateral Inversion or Mirror Left – Right Reversal - is a phenomenon in which if a body is in front of the mirror, the left side of the body becomes the right side of the image and the right side of the body becomes the left side of the image.

EVALUATION 1-3. Suppose we had a flat , plane mirror mounted vertically. A candle is placed 10 cm in front of the mirror. What is the image distance and type of image formed? Write your answer in a ¼ sheet of paper. mirror Virtual Image

EVALUATION 4-5. In your paper, write your first name in such a way that it can be read properly in front of the mirror.

Image Formed in Plane Mirrors mirror Virtual Image Object Distance, D o = 10 cm Image Distance, D i = 10 cm D o =D i , and the heights are equal as well

GROUP ASSIGNMENT Aside from the signages on the below, do a brainstorming on other possible signage and cite the relevance to the society. (Same group during activity)

THANK YOU!!!!
