PLACES TO VISIT
NAME AND DESCRIPTION IMAGE
Mt. Carmel Chapel

Mt. Carmel Chapel, also known as Tukon
Church, was first established on May 3, 2008,
at Sitio Tukon, Barangay Chanarian, Batanes. It
adopted the design of a traditional Ivatan
house made of stone walls, making it the only
chapel embodying such design.

Mt. Carmel Chapel also manifests solemnity
and tranquility as it perfectly sits on top of a
hill, overlooking the lush greenery of Batanes,
as well as the Pacific Ocean and the West
Philippine Sea.

Tayid Light House

Situated in Mahatao, Batanes is the “Tayid
Lighthouse”, it is one of the three
functional ligthouse that was built in early
2000s. The lighthouse also serves as a
tourist attraction.Many people think that

Mahatao Lighthouse but it is not the
Spanish-era lighthouse.

The construction of Tayid lighthouse
together with Basco and Sabtang
lighthouse was proposed by then
Representative Butch Abad . The ligthouses

Honesty Coffee Shop

Everyone is expected to be honest, the store
owners trust the people enough to allow them
to list the products they bought along with its
corresponding price and then leave the
payment in a dropbox. You can find an
interesting sign on the wall that says “This
store is too small for dishonest people,”.

It is a typical Pinoy Sari-Sari Store and Coffee
Shop combined. Once you enter the shop, you
can sit, relax, and have some coffee. Each item
has a price tag while some item prices are
listed on the wall. The Majority of tourists
intentionally drops excessive payment to show
their support to the owner.

Morong Beach

Morong Beach perfectly captivates the origins
of Sabtang Island, with its white-sand beach
and calm atmosphere. Truth be told, it’s hard
not to long for a quick nap while looking at the
clear blue water and listening to the soft
humming of birds.

Another landmark you’ll instantly notice when
you step foot on Morong Beach is the Ahaw
Arch made of limestone, which easily became
a spot for picnickers.

Chawa View Deck

Located in the steep mountainside of Batan
and Mahatao. The place does not only
boast of majestic views of the West
Philippine Sea, it also allows visitors to see
the intricate beauty of West Batan’s cliffs.
Taking the somewhat challenging steps
leading down the rocky coast is worth it
because of what awaits below – a
panoramic view of different rock formations
and the vast blue sea.

Basco Light House

Basco Lighthouse was completed in 2003 on
the spot near the old American telegraph
facility that Japanese troops destroyed during
the Second World War. The 20-metre high
facility has six-stories in it, the fifth one being
the gallery that offers tourists a breathtaking
vista of the West Philippine Sea, Mt. Iraya, and
Basco Town Proper. In here, the wind blows
with fierceness, the verdant green
surroundings relaxing, and the view of the
seemingly endless rolling hills can make you
wonder how such a small province can hold
such majestic beauty — beauty you should not
forget to capture on camera.

Sabtang Lighthouse

Perched on a cliff just beside the port, Sabtang
Lighthouse is the first man-made structure to
greet you as you approach Sabtang island.
Unlike the lighthouses of Batan Island, the
tower boasts a round tower with a rubble
masonry finish all the way to the gallery deck,
which gives it a dominant organic appeal, and a
red lantern room. It is best viewed from the
port where crashing waves take the
foreground.

Dampol Bridge

Built in 1818 by Spanish Fray Francisco
Rocamora, the Dampol Arc Bridge is a single-
arched brick bridge that spans the Abanatan
creek that divides BarrangaysDumang and
Dopaj, and one of the few remaining historic
landmarks in the area. The early Isinays along
with indigenous groups living in the old Ituy area
built this manually. Native hands crafted the
red colored brick from an old adobe workshop
near the St. Vincent Ferrer Church in a small
town in Dupax during the time when Padre
Rocamora was vicar.
