GONZALO VILLA CHAVEZ A short story writer and storyteller, born in Zamboanga City to a wealthy family, he became the news editor of the Atenean, an educational newspaper that published some of his works. His first story is "When Death Struck". He won the National Essay Writing Contest in 1946, it was titled "The Role of America in the Rehabilitation of the Philippines". Among his prize-winning writings are Footnoteof America and he replaced "Death of Illusion", "Barrio Miracle", "A Voice of Rama“

ANTONIO DESCALAR

ANTONIO DESCALAR Born in Sindangan Zamboanga on June 15 1952. Studied in a public school and completed his studies at the Misamis Occidental Institute and the College of Law at AU. He won first prize in a poetry writing contest held in 1949. His first published poem was "now before the conquerer"

EMIGDIO ALVAREZ ENRIQUEZ

EMIGDIO ALVAREZ ENRIQUEZ Born in Zamboanga City where he also completed his pre-college education. Went to AU, where he completed his AB degree (1951) and after that he attended the University of IOWA. As a scholar he reached the University of Madrid. He was given money by the Zobel de Ayala family. Since then he started writing his novel "The House Juan" which was not printed. Two of his short stories won the Philippine Free Press Short Story Contest. "Death of a House", second prize, 1951 and "The Doll", third prize. On February 20, 1971, the play "As Between Two Mirrors" that he wrote and adapted from his novel was screened at the UE Auditorium. His other published books are "Three Philippine Epics, Plays at House of Images" (1953), and "The White House of Ali at Other Stories" (1985).

IBRAHIM JUBAIR

IBRAHIM JUBAIR He was the first fictionist from Zamboanga to be awarded the Presidential Certificate of Merit in Literature for Teaching the Filipino-Muslim in his time. Besides being a poet and journalist, he is also a columnist in a Zamboanga City newspaper and editor of the Crescent Review. The book I Jubaira was printed not only by the Free Press Pacific Quarterly (South Korea) and The Times of Ceylon.
