Relacion de las
Islas Filipinas
Miguel D. Loarca
Eduave, Escalderon, Jucom, Juni, Sumoda, Villegas

Summary
To put it in a nutshell, the Relacion de las Islas Filipinas
presents the context of the Spanish colonial period for the
early Filipinos. It is all about the beginning of the Philippine
government, which includes the system, society, and culture.
With that being said, the concept covers the discoveries that
were unleashed during the period. It is mainly highlighted by
the events of governance and the specific positions of the
authorities within every term that greatly dominated the
entire country; the government system was grounded in the
traditions; this was followed by the subsequent early period
of colonization, which makes it part of Philippine history.

How did Loarca describe
the relationship of the
Pintados?
They assert that Sadipa, another god, resides in the
heavens. On Mount Mayas, this God owns a very tall tree.
There, he counts the life of each baby and marks a spot
on the tree; when the person's height reaches the mark,
he passes away instantly. It is thought that all souls are
redeemed from Simuran and Siguinarugan, the gods of
the lower regions, through the manganitos, which are
sacrifices and offerings offered to Pandaque in front of
the Mount of Mayas. It is also believed that all souls are
redeemed from the infernal regions at the time of death.

How similar or different was Loarca’s
description of the baylanas from the
accounts of Plasencia and Morga?
In "RELACION DE LAS ISLAS FILIPINAS" by Miguel de Loarca, the indigenous priestesses known as
baylanas in the Philippines are addressed. Despite the fact that Loarca, Plasencia, and Morga all
depicted these individuals during the Spanish colonial period, there may be variances in their
observations because of their own perspectives and experiences. They certainly do, however, have a
lot in common when it comes to the activities, events, and significance of baylanas in indigenous
societies. A thorough comparison involves looking at certain portions of each author's literature.
Despite these sources providing insightful information about pre-colonial Filipino culture, it is
important to take into account the colonial setting and any potential biases of the authors.
