UNIT 6- WELLNESS Prepared by: Sevilla, Arcady Lou E. and Suarin, Mercy Sweet S.
How can you tell if you’re healthy? To me, being healthy means being able to……….
Wellness Means being healthy in your body and mind. It's not just about not being sick – it's about taking care of yourself in a complete way. This includes how you live your life and trying to make it balanced and enjoyable. Wellness is about doing things that help you stay healthy and improve how you live. Comprises of eight mutually co-dependence dimensions: emotional, physical, occupational, social, spiritual, intellectual, environmental, and financial. If any one of these dimensions is neglected over time, it will adversely affect one's health, well-being, and quality of life.

ILLNESS AND WELLNESS CONTINUUM
What is the illness-wellness continuum ? The illness-wellness continuum is a model or concept used in healthcare and wellness fields to illustrate the range of health states that individuals can experience. It is a visual representation of how health and well-being are not static conditions but exist on a continuum . At one end of the continuum is "illness," representing poor health and a state of disease, while at the other end is "wellness," representing optimal health and well-being. In between these two extremes, there are various stages or levels of health.
TRAVIS’S ILLNESS-WELLNESS CONTINUUM (1972) Movement to the Right (Towards High-Level Wellness) Awareness: Recognizing the importance of health and well-being. Education: Seeking knowledge about healthy lifestyles and wellness practices. Growth: Actively applying acquired knowledge for positive lifestyle changes. Movement to the Left (Towards Premature Death): Signs: Objective indicators of potential health issues. Symptoms: Subjective experiences signaling progressing health problems . Disability: Significant loss of functioning and well-being, leading to reduced quality of life and increased reliance on medical care or assistance .
Always remember that “It is less important to where you are right now. What is more important is the direction you are heading.”
