REPRODUCTIVE AND SEXUAL HEALTH

Reproductive Health - refers to the state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not the absence of a disease, infirmity or weakness. In all matters, it is relating to the reproductive system and to its function and processes.

Reproductive Health - According to World Health Organization - reproductive health can be defined as the total well being and proper functioning of reproductive organs in all phases of reproduction.

Reproductive Development - physiologic readiness for childbearing and begins during intrauterine life and full function is initiated at puberty.

Intrauterine Development - sex of an individual is determined at the moment of conception by the chromosome information supplied by the ovum and sperm then joined to create a new life.

Role of Androgen - androgenic hormones are the hormones responsible for muscular development, physical growth and increase in sebaceous glands secretion that causes changes during puberty.

Role of Estrogen - triggered by FSH at puberty, ovarian follicles begin to excrete.

Secondary Sex Characteristics: (in females) growth spurt growth in the transverse diameter of the pelvis. breast development growth of pubic hair onset of menstruation growth of axillary hair vaginal secretion

Secondary Sex Characteristics: (in males) increase in weight growth of testes growth of axillary and pubic hair voice change penile growth increase in height production of sperm (spermatogenesis)
