Pathogenesis Apoptosis of rods and cones Type 1- rods Type 2- combined rods and cones

Clinical features Symptoms Night blindness Age of onset 25 to 30 years Dark adaptation – light threshold of the peripheral retina is increased Tubular vision- loss of peripheral retina Loss of central vision P hotopsia

Fundus ; Signs Retinal pigmentary changes

Field defects

O ther causes for retinal pigmentary disorders syphilis, rubella , and diffuse unilateral subacute neuroretinitis  RP can be associated with deafness, obesity, kidney disease and various other general health problems, including central nervous, and genital lesions.
