ON THE PARTS
OF STORY
Angel Oligo

INTRODUCTION
Fiction is literature in the form of prose that describes imaginary events and
people.
It comes in any length; like novels, novellas, fables, epics, and more.
Although there are many types of fiction, they all include 5 basic elements.

PLOT
A plot is the sequence of events within a
story: a description of what happens
and why it happens.
It contains the beginning (exposition),
middle (rising action, climax), and the
end (falling action, resolution) of a
story.

CHARACTERS
The people, animals, or things that
the story revolves around.
Characters are essential to a good
story, and it is the main characters
that have the greatest effect on the
plot or are the most affected by the
events of the story.

CHARACTERS IN DEPTH
Major characters - the most important roles.
Minor roles - small roles throughout the story.
Protagonist - the one that continues to push the story forward. Can be described as
“the hero” or “the good one”.
Antagonist - the one that goes against the protagonist. Can be described as “the
villain” or “the bad one”.

DIALOGUE
A stylized written or spoken
exchange between two or more
people.
It is a form of communication
between characters.
This is different from monologue,
which refers to the spoken word of
one person aloud.

The struggle that the
protagonist goes through in a
story.
Or a struggle between
opposing forces. Characters
must act to confront those
forces and that is where
conflict is born.
