Over 40 per cent of India's population is under 25. Praying for our youth is more important than ever. The Lord continues to do amazing things in young lives, and I’m confident it’s the result of prayer. I’m also confident the youth of today are the leaders of the church of tomorrow and will have a greater impact on our world. They will pursue God with a greater zeal and passion than previous generations. That’s why we must invest more time than ever in prayer for youth.
1. Pray that the young people will have a purpose in their lives. John 17:3 And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent. God has a plan and purpose for every young person. Pray that no matter what each young person’s circumstances may be that they would know the one true God and find meaning and purpose in living. Pray that they would not harden their heart, but would be open to the Holy Spirit. Pray that the Lord would bring people in their lives who reflect God’s love to them.
2. Pray that the young people will have the right friends in their lives. 1 Corinthians 15: 33 Do not be misled: “Bad company corrupts good character.” As young people go through the process of sorting out who they are and what they believe, some of them rebel and can get into wrong company. Pray for discernment, that they would be willingness to ask for help, that they would reach out to those with experience or wisdom in these areas who could add perspective to this decision, and could point to the right direction. Pray that they will be influenced for lasting good by the people they spend time with.
3. Pray that the young people will live holy lives and be an example to the next generation. 1 Timothy 4:12 “Let no man despise your youth; but be an example to those who believe, in word, in your way of life, in love, in spirit, in faith, and in purity.” Pray for them to live holy lives as they navigate their youth years, and that they would set a good example to the next generation. Pray for strength to walk away from temptation, that the Lord would show them the way out He provides them. Pray that the desire to please God would be stronger than their need to fit in. Pray that they would be an example to others in faith, love, and purity and they would find others who pursue holiness and have a positive influence.
4. Pray that the young people will find victory in their spiritual struggles. Ephesians 6:12 “For our wrestling is not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world’s rulers of the darkness of this age, and against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.” The youth of today face many struggles, and might not have the experience or knowledge to identify it as spiritual warfare. We can pray for them as they face this struggle for their hearts and minds. Pray for clarity of mind, that they will not embrace lies presented as the truth by this world. Pray for protection against evil, that they would be protected by the sacrifice on the cross made by Jesus Christ. Pray for victory in these spiritual battles.
5. Pray that the young people will SEE THE CHURCH AS A PLACE TO GROW AND BE REGULAR IN FELLOWSHIP. Hebrews 10:25 “Not forsaking our own assembling together, as the custom of some is, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.” The Greek word exhort is parakaleō and includes in its definition: encourage, strengthen, console, call to one’s side, admonish, comfort. Pray for their unity, that they would enjoy a harmonious and tight-knit youth group. Pray that they will be connected, that they would feel like a part of the local church Pray that they would hold fast to the Word of God and lay right foundations for growth.
