INSPECTION PROCEDURE

WIRE ROPE CLAMPS
When using U-bolt
wire rope clips to
form eyes, ensure the
"U" section is in
contact with the dead
end of the rope
This is the correct method

HITCHES

1. “Vertical” Hitch
Loading with the the load suspended vertically on a
single part or leg of the sling.

2. “Basket” Hitch
Loading with the sling passed under the load and both
ends on the hook or a single master link.

3. “Choker” Hitch
Loading with the sling passed through one eye and
suspended by the other.
Capacity = 75% of Vertical Hitch

18
4. “BRIDLE” HITCH

19
THUMB RULE
Wire Rope:
SWL = 8 x D x D

D = dia. of the rope
eg: 1/2” rope dia
SWL = 8 *1/2 *1/2 = 2 Tons.
Note: Dia is in inches & result in Tons.
SWL= 0.0124 x D x D
Dia is in inches
Dia is in mm

SLINGS: SAFE ANGLE
If L is greater than S
then sling angle is OK

INSPECTION OF D-SHACKLES
•SAFE WORKING LOAD MISSING
OR UNREADABLE
•IDENTIFICATION MISSING
OR UNREADABLE
•INCORRECT PIN
•DAMAGED THREAD ON PIN
•DISTORTED BODY
•WORN OUT BODY OR PIN
•CORROSION, CRACKS.

PULLEYS

Sheave should rotate freely.
The shaft should be free from crack and should not be worn-out.
Anchor should be strong & firm.

WELDING ROD
NO LOCKING
ARRANGEMENT

CHAIN PULLEY BLOCK
•Test certificate
•Periodic inspection
•Defective chains
•Hook Latch
•Load up to its rating
•Removing lifting hook
•Double chain single chain
•Pulling instead of Lifting
•Releasing lifting hook from height.

RIGGING
PROCEDURE

RIGGING PROCEDURES
 Skilled Gang Leader
Planning :
tools & tackles, material, Location
Rigging equipments
 Inspection procedure:
Sling, D shackle, Equipment, Location

34
 Center of gravity
Stability of Load
Ensure load is free before lifting
& all legs are taking the load

Sharp Edge
-provide packing
RIGGING PRECAUTIONS
Remove or secure all loose materials from the load

36
Whenever 2 or more ropes
are to be placed over a hook
- use a shackle
Use of tag lines to control all loads

37
Before being unhooked all loads
must be safely landed and
properly blocked
Stay away from slings when
they are being pulled out from
under loads
