Presentation given by Megan McCuen, Veterans Wellness Program Coordinator for the new River Crossing YMCA, to the Lehigh Valley Military Affairs Council meeting on 18 September on the topic of “River Crossing YMCA Gives Back to Those Who Served and Their Families”. This new program is entering the Lehigh Valley starting 23 September using privately donated funding for bettering the physical and psychological wellness of veterans and their families. Need friendships are also developed, for having friends is a useful component of a healthy life and helps to build healthy communities also.

to return to health and wellness
through free access to the Y’s
facilities, small group training for both
physical and mental health, nutrition
information and community service.
Veterans Wellness Program Overview
●12 week health & wellness program designed to promote physical
health and overall wellbeing.
●Serves veterans and their families.
●Participants and their families receive a complimentary Y
membership during the 12 weeks of the program.
○Upon completion of the program, participants receive an additional 6 months free
membership to the Y!
●Hybrid model featuring in-person and virtual sessions.
○Participants attend at least one in-person and the weekly virtual session each
week
●Variety of topics covered, guest speakers featured, and activities
throughout.

What does Veterans Wellness programming look like?
●Participants are required to attend at least one
in-person meeting and the weekly virtual session
each week
○In-person sessions for group fitness & movement
○Virtual sessions for education & occur every Tuesday at 2pm
OR 7pm
●Each week of our program focuses on a specific
theme, i.e. nutrition, mental health, mindfulness,
gratitude, stress management, etc.
●This program is like a three-legged stool
○Leg one - Movement
○Leg two - How we fuel our bodies
○Leg three - Our thoughts and mental space.
●All three legs need attention to balance our stool!
