Norma L. McCorvey (also known as Jane Roe), was pregnant with her third child for majority of this court session. (She gave birth before the decision was made.) Roe stated that she had been “raped” -which turned out was a false statement later announced by Roe. S he made this false statement to have a better chance to be able to have a legal abortion. (Abortion was illegal in the state of Texas at the time. Henry Wade was a Texas lawyer, who was the attorney in this court case. Wade had never lost a court case before this one.
