Ecosystem - is that it is a community or group of living organisms that live in and interact with each other in a specific environment.
Ecosystem Plants Animals Producers Consumers
Roles of Organisms in the Ecosystem J.N.Y
Producer - is a living thing that makes its own food. Examples:
Consumers - are classified into three main groups.
Herbivores - animals that eat only plants and get energy from them.
Carnivores - get energy by eating only animal meat.
Omnivores - are consumers that eat both plants and animals.
Predator - can be a carnivore or an omnivore that hunts other animals for food. - Animals that are hunted for food are called prey .
Scavengers - When plants and animals die, some organisms in the evironment eat them.
Decomposers - Another group of living things get their energy from decaying plants or fruits or remains of animals.
Effects of Human Activities on the Environment
1. Roads and highways can also change ecosystems.
Pollution - is the contamination of air, water, and soil by substances harmful to living things.
Deforestation - reduces the supply of oxygen and carbon dioxide needed by organisms.
Conservation - refers to activities that protect organisms in the ecosystem.
People restore habitats and repair damaged ecosystems through the following activities: 1. Cleaning waterways to protect ecosystem and prevent flooding. 2. Reforestation or planting of trees. 3. Using technology to clean oil spills. 4. Using renewable energy and solar energy. 5. Reducing personal waste and conserving water, electricity, and gas. 6. Practising the 5Rs
6. 5Rs
M Recycle - is to change used material into other useful products.
Reuse - is to use something again and again.
Reduce - is to consume less produce and lessen waste products.
Recover - is to get useful parts of an item considered as waste.
Repair - is to restore by replacing a part or putting together what is torn or broken.
