Roller Compacted Concrete – Placement Method RCC is transported by dump trucks from the pugmill to the paver. It is placed in lifts between (100-250mm) thick and (13m) wide. Compaction using steel drum vibratory rollers begins immediately after placement and continues until the pavement meets density requirements. RCC does not require the internal vibration Curing is an important step to protect from moisture loss and to ensure adequate strength gain and durability.
Advantages of Roller Compacted Concrete (RCC) Concrete Reduced cement consumption as the leaner concrete mix can be used. Formwork costs are minimized or eliminated because of the layer placement method. No concerns about high heat release while the concrete is drying. The cost of transporting, placement, and compaction of concrete are minimized because concrete can be hauled by dump trucks S pread by bulldozers and compacted by vibratory rollers. This concrete solution can be used to maintain traffic open and large volumes of RCC can be placed easily.
Roller Compacted Concrete (RCC ) Applications Port, rail and military facilities Distribution centers, parking and storage facilities Streets & highways, intersections, shoulders, turn lanes, bike paths Manufacturing facilities, heavy haul roads, scrap yards Power plants and other industrial facilities Other secondary RCC applications Over-topping protection Embankment dam raise Reservoir liners Industrial slab floors Airfield maintenance areas
Limitations of Roller Compacted Concrete (RCC) The surface of RCC is rougher than other pavements and not suitable for high-speed traffic. The construction of adjacent slabs and also multiple horizontal lifts in same layer shall be placed within an hour to make sure the good bonding between layers. It is very difficult to compact the pavement layer towards the edges T he use of admixture on RCC may be higher than conventional concrete pavements because of the dryness and stiffness of the mixture. In hot weather concreting of RCC for paving requires additional attention to decrease the possibility of water loss due to evaporation.

F oundation of Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Mandir, has been decided that foundation work will be done using Roller Compacted Concrete technique.
Total 40-45 layers of concrete will be put in 1,20,000 sq feet area. It takes 4-5 days to put one layer .
