INTRODUCTION Ruskin bond was born in Kassauli , Himachal Pradesh on 19 th May 1934.He completed his education at Bishop Cotton School in Shimla. He has lived in Mussorie-Landour since 1962. He is an Indian author in British descent. He is considered to be an icon among Indian writters and children’s author and a top novelist.

FAMILY Ruskin Bond was born on the dying days of the British Raj. His childhood was a lonely and miserable one marked by his parents divorce and his mother’s remarriage. His father died in 1944 during the 2 nd World War and he was brought by his mother and step father. Among blood, Bond has 2 sisters and a brother.

We have a short story of Ruskin Bond named “I Can’t Climb Trees Anymore” in the SCERT English Course Book of standard 8 What T he Story About The story highlights the importance of childhood days in shaping the character of a person. It deals with the wistful memories of the joyful days in the life of a man and his present friendship with a little girl enabling him to refresh those memories

Summary of the story A man came back to his old house which is now owned by a colonel. The man was to see the old jack fruit tree still standing beside the house. There he met colonel’s little daughter. He shared some of his childhood memories with her. He said that he used to keep some of his treasures like marbles, coins and his grandfather’s iron cross in the hollow of jack fruit tree. But he was not able to climb the tree. The little girl climbed and turned the iron cross on the man’s hands. He gifted it to her and walked away with tears in his eyes

STYLE OF WRITING The major of Ruskin Bond’s writing is life on hills His writing style is distinct in a way that it tries to make the reader understands the landscape and character through carefully mastered words His descriptions are simple and humble usually dealing with friendship

AWARDS The Indian Council for Child Education recognized his pioneering role in the growth of children’s literature in India and awarded him the Sahithya Academy Award in 1992. He was awarded the Padmasree in 1999 and Padmabhushan in 2014
