2. Sadhrana rasa is a group of 8 drugs . As per Sages like Nagarjuna these drugs are believed to help us in attaining rasasidhi Such a categorization can only be seen in Rasaratna samuchaya .

5. INTRODUCTION First drug of sadharana rasa. Herbal origin Found in brihat trayi Identified as Mallotus phillippinensis (Lam) belonging to Euphorbiaceae family/ Spurge family. OCCURANCE South East Asia, Afghanistan and Australia. The south most limit of natural distribution is Mount Keira , South of Sydney. In India it is found in Bengal, Gujarat, Northern parts of Karnataka, Malabar Hills, Chennai region.

6. BOTANICAL DESCRIPTION it is a bush to small medium sized tree up to 25 m height. Trunk diametre 45 cm Flowering season : March to April. Fruits may appear at any time of the year. It is 3 lobed capsule, 6-9 mm broad, covered with red powdery substance. This red powder is collected and used as kampillaka for pharmaceutical and therapeutic purposes. The ripen fruits are collected in vasantha rithu , dried and the hair ang glands are collected by rubbing with cloth or hand. The powder is soluble in alcohol and produces a dye suited to colour silk and wool.

13. TEST FOR GENUINENESS It will be soft to touch. Floats when put on stable water, the impurities like brick powder settle down. Insoluble in cold water but soluble in warm or hot water. When touched with wet finger tip and rubbed over a white paper, it leaves yellow colour . A pinch of drug when put on fire burns with sound.
