Organic Farming Sajal verma, B.Tech 1st year,(C.E) Roll no. 210013135096
INTRODUCTION Organic farming is an agricultural system that uses fertilizers of organic origin such as compost manure, green manure, and bone meal and places emphasis on techniques such as crop rotation and companion planting.
HISTORY It originated early in the 20th century in reaction to rapidly changing farming practices. Certified organic agriculture accounts for 70 million hectares globally, with over half of that total in Australia.
REGULATIONS Regulations on "organic" food labels define "organic" primarily in terms of whether "natural" or "artificial" substances were allowed as inputs in the food production process.
SOIL MANAGEMENT Organic farming relies more heavily on the natural breakdown of organic matter than the average conventional farm, using techniques like green manure and composting, to replace nutrients taken from the soil by previous crops.
ADVANTAGES Environment-friendly. Promotes sustainable development. Healthy and tasty food. Inexpensive process. It uses organic inputs. Generates income.
DISADVANTAGES Organic food is more expensive because farmers do not get as much out of their land as conventional farmers do. Production costs are higher because farmers need more workers. Marketing and distribution is not efficient because organic food is produced in smaller amounts.
