3. BACKGROUND According to the World health organization (WHO) postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) defined as the blood loss of more than 500 milliliters following a vaginal delivery or more than 1000 ml following caesarian section (WHO, 2018)

4. PROBLEM STATEMENT WHO has continuously promoted active management of the third stage of labor as an intervention for the prevention of PPH. This intervention is a package comprising administration of a uterotonic drug to make the uterus contract after delivery of the baby, clamping and cutting the umbilical cord , and delivery of the placenta by controlled cord traction , followed by uterine massage (WHO, 2020).

5. Cont.… Obstetric hemorrhage is the Somali’s leading cause of maternal mortality , responsible for an estimated 127 0 deaths annually . Postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) is the most common type of obstetric hemorrhage and accounts for the majority of the 834 cases that occur each year (WHO, 2019).

SIGNIFICANCE The research hopes that this research will bring updated knowledge about contributing factors of PPH as well as the findings and the recommendations of this study should be important for staff of South Galkayo hospital , Galmudug ministry of health , public health policymakers , and even local authority for better intervention. What is more, this research will be used by other researchers who are interested in this study by using as reference especially the fresh students who want to make further research about factors contributing to postpartum hemorrhage.
