Stratagem by George Farquhar to examine gender relations during the two periods.
The plays demonstrate how women were represented in society and what societal
expectations were at the time. The way women navigated their own sexuality,
finances, and power relation s improved noticeably from the Jacobean Period to the
18th century. During the Jacobean Period women were not allowed to preform in
theatres; all of the players were men and boys (Spear 13). Because of the violent

slow down the benzoquinone reaction. The potato was then skinned to remove parts

The grotesque poem is told from the perspective of someone observing the bodies,
or fruit , hanging from the trees. Abel Meeropol wrote the poem because he was
disturbed by a photo he saw of the Marion, Indiana lynchings. The black and white

posing and pointing up at the limp carcasses is a sick image that makes us question
the humanity of those who could commit such a horrendous crime and feel no

Summary
The Elementary episode, Crowned Clown, Downtown Brown begins with action
right away. There are two men chasing after a clown in the woods. They finally
lose the clown and see him dead buried under leaves. In the few minutes that the

is waiting to meet Chantel for a date. He is sitting at a bar when a man tries to start

Along with the story line about crime, there will usually be a personal story line so
viewers have a chance to know the cops as characters (Class Notes, para 5). This is
best shown when the detective is meeting up for a date with his girlfriend who
ended up not being able to come. While he was waiting at the bar a guy tried to
fight him. He later finds out it was his girlfriend s ex husband trying to cause
friction between all of them. Elementary does not fit the blueprint for a typical cop
show. The public is to believe that the clown was possibly harmful or bad when all
along one of the City s public water workers was behind contaminating the water
and hiring someone to do so. While this was happening, the clown saw him.
Therefore, he got murdered. It was a line of crimes that happened but, the bad guy
does not show up till middle/towards the end of the show. This gives Elementary a
combination of multiple genre types that are similar to different types of cop shows.
Conclusion
Overall, Elementary is a show that does represent good vs. evil but, there is more
too it then just that. It s not your typical blueprint cop show. There is mystery and a
twist to each case that makes the show not predictable to the audience. While also
incorporating someone s lifestyle it makes the show seem more on a personal level
for viewers to relate to. The makers of the show did not make everything

later adaptations began to advance toward truly conveying the meaning that
