VASCULAR AND NERVE SUPPLY OF SCALP
SURGICAL IMPORTANCE OF SCALP Wound of scalp do not gape unless epicranial aponeurosis is divided transversely. Wounds of scalp bleed profusely. Collection of blood in between pericranium and skull bone is called as cephalhaematoma . Since blood supply of scalp is very rich avulsed portion can be stitched and heal well . Inflation in layers cause little swelling but much pain.
Because of abundance of sebaceous glands scalp is common site of sebaceous cyst. Extracranial infection can spread through emissary veins (present in loose areolar tissue) to intracranial venous sinuses . Since blood supply of scalp is very rich avulsed portion can be stitched and heal well.
