SCHOOL HEALTH SERVICES-

INTRODUCTION- School health is an important branch of community health nursing. According to modern concept, health services is an economical and powerful means of raising community health, and more important, in future generation. The school health service is a personal health service, it has developed during the past 70 yrs from the narrower concept of medical examination of children to the present-day broader concept of comprehensive care of the health and wellbeing of children throughout the school years.

DEFINITION- ‘’ACOORDING TO K.K GULANI’’ SCHOOL HEALTH REFERS TO A STATE OF COMPLETE PHYSICAL ,MENTAL , SOCIAL AND SPRITUAL WELL BEING AND NOT MEARLY ABSENCE OF DISEASE OR INFIRMITY AMONG PUPILS , TEACHERS SCHOOL PERSONNEL. ‘’ ACCORDING TO K. PARK ‘’ SCHOOL HEALTH SERVICE IS PART OF EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMME THROUGH WHICH CHANGES ARE BROUGHT ABOUT IN KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND BEHAVIOUR FOR A HEALTHY LIVING.

# SCHOOL HEALTH - School health is a synthesis of nursing practices & public health services is totality to maintain health status of the school going children. Problem affected to them & the health services provided to them to solve their health problem is called school health services

# OBJECTIVES OF SCHOOL HEALTH SERVICE- 1. The promotion of positive health. 2. The prevention of diseases. 3. Early diagnosis, treatment and follow-up defects. 4. Awakening health consciousness in children. 5. The provisions of healthful environment.

# OBJECTIVES OF SCHOOL HEALTH SERVICE- 6. Regular medical Check-up of School Children enabling early detection of defects and disease and from referral for treatment. 7. Health and Population education Programme in School. 8. Ensuring a healthful School environment, e.g. as regards Safe drinking water. Sanitation, accident Prevention and food hygiene 9 . Nutrition education and Providing, whenever possible Nutritional Supplements Children. or mid-day meal in School children.

SCHOOL NURSE DEFINITION - The national association of nurses defines school nursing as a specialized practice of professional nursing that advances the well-being, academic success & lifelong achievements of student to that end, school nurses facilitate positive student responses to normal development, promote health & safety, intervene with actual & potential health problem, provide case management services & actively collaborate with others to build students & family capacity for adaptation, self-management, self-advocacy & learning.

SCHOOL HEALTH PROGRAMME IN INDIA - Recognizing schools as useful platform, government of india has launched "school health program" under ayushman bharat to strengthen health promotion and disease prevention intervention. It is a joint initiative of ministry of health and family welfare and department of school education & literacy, ministry of human resource & development.

OBJECTIVES - To promote use of safe drinking water in schools . To promote safe menstrual hygiene practices by girls. To promote yoga and meditation through health & wellness ambassadors. To promote healthy behaviour among the children that they will inculcate for life. To encourage research on health, wellness and nutrition for children. To provide age appropriate information about health and nutrition to the children in schools.

Conclusion - School health service are offered to the students so that they attain a healthy living including physical examination , treatment of minor ailment and common disease . it is the responsibility of the teachers and other school staff to the find out any deviation from the normal condition take appropriate steps in this direction.
