Wildlife Sanctuaries in Uttar Pradesh -1. Bakhira Sanctuary The  Bakhira Bird Sanctuary  is the largest natural flood plain wetland of India in  Sant Kabir Nagar district  of Eastern  Uttar Pradesh . The sanctuary was established in 1980. It is situated 44 km west of  Gorakhpur  city.  It is a vast stretch of water body expanding over an area of 29 km². This is an important lake of eastern UP, which provides a migratory ground for a number of migratory waterfowls and a breeding ground for resident birds. The sanctuary is named after the village Bakhira located adjacent to the lake along with as many as hundred and eight villages surrounding the lake within the 5 km radius. The villagers from the surrounding villages depend on the wetland for their livelihood in the form of fishing, agricultural activities and fuelwood collection from it. The Siberians birds travel across 5000 km to get to these wetlands at the time of winter's.

Wildlife Sanctuaries in Uttar Pradesh -2. Chandra Prabha Wildlife Sanctuary The  Chandra Prabha Wildlife Sanctuary , also known as Chandraprabha, is situated in  Chandauli district  of  Uttar Pradesh  state in central  India . It is well endowed with beautiful picnic spots, dense forests, and scenic waterfalls like Rajdari and Devdari that attract tourists every year to its vicinity. Chandra Prabha Wildlife Sanctuary is situated about 70 km from the historic city of  Varanasi . Chandra Prabha Sanctuary is spread over an area of 78 km² and lies on the Naugarh and Vijaigarh hillocks on the north slope of the  Kaimur Range . The  Karamnasha River , a tributary of the  Gangas , flows through the sanctuary, as does the Chandraprabha River, a tributary of the Karamnasha.

Wildlife Sanctuaries in Uttar Pradesh -3. Hastinapur Wildlife Sanctuary Hastinapur Wildlife Sanctuary  is a protected area in the  Gangetic plains  of  Uttar Pradesh . It was established in 1986 and covers 2,073 km 2  (800 sq miles), across  Meerut ,  Muzzafarnagar ,  Ghaziabad ,  Bijnor ,  Meerut  and  Amroha  districts. Hastinapur Wildlife Sanctuary lies on the western bank of the  Gangas River  at an altitude of 130–150 m (430–490 ft). Tall wet grasslands dominate in low-lying areas and are inundated most of the year. Short wet grasslands are dry from winter to the onset of the  monsoon . The sanctuary is named for the ancient city of  Hastinapur , which lies on west bank of the Boodhi Ganga.

Wildlife Sanctuaries in Uttar Pradesh -5. Wildlife Sanctuary Kachhua Sanctuary  is in  Varanasi  district in  Uttar Pradesh .  Turtles , the  Ganga dolphin  and other water animals can be found here. Location 8 km from railway station, spread over the 7 km stretch of River Ganges from Rajghat to Ramnagar, Varanasi, U.P. Turtle Sanctuary was founded on 21 December 1989. A turtle breeding project with its breeding center at Sarnath where turtles are hatched and reared for one to one and half year and then are left into River Ganges to remove the bio-pollutants like partly cremated and dead bodies directly thrown in the river. The eggs of these turtles are specially procured from river Chambal. Around 2000 turtles are released annually in the river. Between 1987 and 2010 around 33,356 turtles were released in the River Ganges by the Kashi Wildlife Division's tortoise breeding center, Sarnath.
