1. SCIENCE IN THE SERVICE OF MAN

Science has opened and enlarged new
frontiers of human knowledge, information, achievements
comforts and conveniences. Today, we have a window large
enough to peep into the hitherto unknown, dark and
mysterious areas of nature in the form of modern science.
This passage from ignorance to knowledge, from darkness to
light, from superstitions and blind belief to scientific temper
and rationality has been a long struggle of sweat and
challenges. But its man nature to seek and face challenges and
his destiny to overcome them.

Science means reasoning, analysis,
objectivity and systematic study of things. Science is very
comprehensive, universal, all-inclusive , simple and yet very
complex and its beyond and definition. It is the light which
leads the mankind to glory. It is the knowledge which makes
the mankind stress free and happy. Therefore science cannot
be defined but it touches us all of us at all the places and times
like a beautiful literary work. Due to the intervention of
science , man conquered time and space and turned the world

2. into a global village. Moon and all the other planets are in the
palms of humans. Now because of the development in
technology, communication between two persons studying at
any nodal point of the globe is very simple through mobile
phones and internets. Computer is another scientific invention
which civilized the whole mankind and created a spark in the
industrial sectors. Television and videogames are there to
satisfy our leisure time. Moreover science has helped in
eradicating so many diseases, which were fatal in the past and
in treating many others. As a result of many medical
discoveries and inventions, man finds him self safer, secure
and enjoy increased life span. Science helped in globalization
and industrialization and changed the outlook of our green
planet. Another important and yet interesting achievement of
science was in the nuclear power. Science and technology has
shown the mankind that, energy could be generated even by
collision of the tiny electrons. Our world has changed so
much so that if any of our forefathers came alive, they won’t
be able to identify the place nor his descendants.

The other side of the coin shows the darker
visage of science. The misuse of science and its invention has

3. brought the entire humanity on the brink of destruction and
annihilation. It has produced very dangerous weapons like the
nuclear bombs which could kill thousands. Many scientific
inventions are now considered a curse. The radiation emitted
by mobiles could harm all our major body parts including our
brain. But for this also science cannot be blamed. It neither a
boon nor a curse. It is man who misuses the science and its
inventions. So it is not right to say that science is wrong
instead we should say that the hands behind the science are
wrong. If we misuse it, then we are to be blamed.
