Screw conveyor

1. Screw conveyor Principle:- Using screw conveyor material is transported by rotation of helical screws which moves material in forward direction in tube from feed point to discharge point.

2. Construction:- Consists of an U tube made up of steel. T wo or more tubes can be joined together for travelling material to discharge point. Screw element:- contains spiral blades called as flights. Made up of single sheet of metal twisted into spiral shape. Flights are welded into central shaft through hanger.

3. Bavel gears:- Installed at the drive end and used for maintaining speed and rotation for shaft. Hopper:- used for feed arrangement. Discharge point is called as spout.

6. Applications:- Conveying fine, pasty solids, abrasive and non abrasive material. Can transport material with capacity of 280 m 3 /hr. Incorporated for in situ devices for mixing,heating,cooling .

7. Advantages:- Operated at positive as well as negative pressure. Material can be conveyed horizontally as well as vertically. Disadvantages:- High power consumption.
