Shapes are everywhere, and they can be divided into two main groups: flat (2D) shapes and solid (3D) shapes. Flat shapes, or two-dimensional shapes, have only length and width. Examples include a circle, which is round without corners, a triangle with three sides, a square with four equal sides, and a rectangle with opposite sides equal. Other flat shapes are the oval, pentagon, hexagon, and octagon, which differ in the number of sides they have. Meanwhile, solid shapes, or three-dimensional shapes, have length, width, and height, making them look solid. A cube has six equal square faces, a cuboid or rectangular prism looks like a box, a sphere is round like a ball, a cone has a pointed top, a cylinder looks like a can, and a pyramid has a base with triangular sides meeting at a point. Learning these shapes helps us recognize and describe the objects around us more easily.
