Section 18, 19, 20 Section 18 – The Magistrate after being prima facie satisfied bout incident of DV, can pass a protection order in favour of aggrieved person and prohibit the respondent from committing any act of violence; aiding the commission of DV; entering into place of employment of aggrieved person; attempting to communicate in any form; alienating any asset/bank locker/bank account held jointly by AP and respondent or solely by the respondent; causing violence to the dependents and any other action. Section 19 - The Magistrate pass a residence order and restrain the respondent from disposing the shared household; direct the respondent to move out of the shared household; restrain the respondent or his relatives to enter the portion of shared household where AP resides; restrain the respondent from renouncing his rights in shared household; and direct the respondent to make an alternative accommodation of the same level for the AP which she had enjoyed in the shared household. Section 20 – The Magistrate can direct the respondent to pay monetary relief to meet the expenses incurred by the AP. This relief can be for the loss of earning, medical expenses, and loss caused due to damage to property. It can also be maintenance for of AP and her children (lump sum, monthly); copy of order is sent to police; if respondent fails, the magistrate can ask his employer to pay directly to court or AP.
