About This Presentation

Seed germination testing using rag-doll and seed box method

Slide Content

WELCOME TO AGRI-CROPS-10 CLASS

Review What are the characteristics of a good seed? 2. What other characteristics of seeds that we are to consider before planting? - Genetic purity -physical purity of composition - Moisture content - Capacity of the seed to germinate or viability

SEED EDSE GAREMINONTI STET GERMINATION TEST

OBJECTIVES: Identify the two methods of seed testing and the materials needed; Demonstrate ragdoll and seed box method of seed testing; and, Value the importance of testing the viability of seeds in actual gardening.

Seed viability -the ability of the seed to germinate normally. Seed germination test -the science of evaluating the quality of seeds to determine their value for planting.

Guide Questions: What have you observed from the video? Is there a process or a method used to find out whether the is seed alive or not? What do you think is the method used?

Group Activities Group 1: Arrange the steps in performing rag doll method Group 2: Arrange the steps in performing seed box method Group 3: Identify what seed germination method is being employed in the picture, and list down tools and materials needed.

Rubrics Criteria 5 4 3 Cooperation All the members actively participated in performing the activity. 1 member did not actively participate. More than 1 member did not actively participate. Accuracy/ correctness All the answers are correct. One answer is not correct. More than one answers are not correct. Promptness The group finished the activity on or before the given time. The group finished the activity 3 minutes after the given time. The group finished the activity more than 5 minutes after the given time

Group Activities

Presentation of Output

Guide Questions: How did you arrive at your answer? Do you think you correctly identify the tool and materials used for rag doll method, and for seed box method? (Group 3) Do you think you arrive at the correct arrangement of the steps. (Group 1 and 2)

Guide Questions: 1. Based on the video presented, which method you find interesting and easy for you to perform? Why?

Demonstration of the student Direction: Using the available tools and materials, perform the following (same groupings) Group 1 and 2: Rag doll method Group 3: Seed box method

Rubrics: Criteria 5 4 3 Cooperation All the members actively participated in performing the activity. 1 member did not actively participate. More than 1 member did not actively participate. Knowledge Application/ Demonstration The group follow all the steps in performing the activity of testing seeds. 1 of the steps is not evidently demonstrated 2 or more steps are not evidently demonstrated.

Guide questions: Why is it important to test the viability of the seed before planting in our garden? in the field? in GP-AYEK or GPP? As an Agri-crops students, how can you impart the knowledge that you have learned today to our local farmers?

Keep Planting seeds you never know what may take root. (Ecclesiastes 11:6)

Directions: Correctly answer the following questions: _______1. What refer to the ability of the seed to germinate normally? _______2. What refers to the science of evaluating the quality of seeds to determine their value for planting. _______3. What method of seed germination test consisting of the use of rolled rag to determine the seed viability? _______4. What method of seed germination test uses box, sterilized soil, and seed? _______5. What is the main purpose of testing the viability of seeds?

Key answer Seed viability or viable seed Seed germination test Rag doll method Seed box method To determine the quality and viability of seeds to be planted.

Assignment Write a three-sentence reflection containing the importance of testing the viability of seed through germination.
