Selective grinding for occlusion in centric relation
In case of premature contact between the cusp tip with the apposing fossa in centric relation and in eccentric relations (working and non working ), The upper supporting cusp (palatal cusp) is grinded.
In case of premature contact between the cusp tip with the apposing fossa in centric relation only, and there is no premature contact in eccentric relations (working and non working ), The apposing fossa is deepened (reduced)
In case of forward deviation of the mandible as a result of premature contacts between mesial inclined surface of the upper cusps and distal inclined surface of the lower cusps We should grind these inclined surfaces
as a result of premature contacts between posterior teeth there will be anterior deviation of the mandible and trauma of anterior teeth
After removal of the premature contacts, the lower cusp tip occludes on opposing fossa or marginal ridges.
There are multiple probabilities for premature contact
After grinding cusp inclines, the Cusp tip occludes on apposing fossae and marginal ridges, And there is no further mandibular deviation
Grind the apposing inclined planes to remove premature contact
Premature contact between outer incline of the upper lingual cusp and inner incline of the lower lingual cusp 1- grind outer incline of the upper lingual cusp until upper cusp tip contact is achieved 2- grind inner incline of the lower lingual cusp until the upper lingual cusp tip in contact with the apposing fossa
Premature contact between functional cusps Remove inner inclines of the apposing cusps
