For my visual art critique, I attend the Texas State University Wittliff Collections
on Tuesday, October tenth. During my visit I viewed works of art from the
Lonesome Dove collection. The first piece of work I critiques was the photograph
Crossing the Rio Grande taken by Bill Wittliff. This photo was taken on the set of
the Lonesome Dove in 1988. What stood out to me was the significance of how real
this photo is. So many slaves have tried to cross this river to escape persecution and
slavery. Although, in this instance the photo is depicting three cowboys or horseman
crossing the Rio Grande River in pursuit of cattle driving thousands of cattle from
Texas up north to Montana. Although this photo is quite iconic in relation to this
history of Texas I do not believe this piece of work along with many others from this
exhibit should be deemed canonical. I personally rate this piece of work a four and a
half, out of ten simply because while it is a great piece of art; it is the type of work I
would like to hang in my bathroom above my toilet so while I am urinating I can
view a nice manly piece of art.

In this book, Stephen Wolfram develops A New Kind of Science that allows
progress to be made in cases where traditional science cannot analyze complex
behaviors. In his proposal for this new kind of science one of the things he addresses
is the notion of computation, where computation is the evolution of a system. In this
book, Wolfram has mentioned and referred to systems such as cellular automata as a
simple computer program , but his overall goal is to show these systems in terms of
the computations that can perform complex shapes with a simple set of rules. In
other words, these systems can be viewed as performing a computation that
determines what its future behavior will be. The interesting thing is that cellular
automata has terms of traditional mathematical notions to describe certain
computations. Stephen reintroduces these mathematical notions by replacing them
with squares (cells) that are either black or white, and when grouped, these cells
create a block. Once multiple blocks are created, they are described as rules that

The Brassica rapa is a rapid growing plant that has a standard form and a mutant
rosette form. Relative to normal plants, the rosette form is shorter and takes longer to
flower. The mode of inheritance of the rosette gene was tested by crossing two true
breeding plants, one of each form. The F1 generation was then cross pollinated to
produce an F2 generation. The phenotypes of each generation were recorded and a

On Monday, September 14, my partner and I set out to find someone that was Not
our Type . When I first heard about the assignment I was extremely nervous for
what would lie ahead. I m not a very talkative person and hardly ever just have
random conversations with people that I don t know. I knew that this assignment
would certainly get me out of my comfort zone, and cause me to really branch out. A
huge part of talking to others about Christ is to just start up a simple conversationto

would be Walmart since people are there 24/7. We walked in at around 9 p.m. and

The Effects Of Technology On Education
Amidst the past several decades technology has become a crucial organ, advancing
our world to great discoveries and knowledge. It has opened doors to what some
may have found impossible only one hundred years ago, but the progress of
technology seems to have run into a road block. Inadequate education of high school
graduates and suffocation of creativity has become a problem all over America.
Technologyhas contributed by hindering our ability to retain information, stalling
progression in our school system and progressing in technology. Technology can be
advantageous for everyone, but because of its convenience and accessibility it is

Instead we have become co dependent with technology and we have been raising our
children to follow in our footsteps.
We cannot expect Americas set back in education to fix itself, we must act in order to
better the education of our children and ourselves. Technology has taken over
countless teaching methods and instigated the flatline of our educational system.
Indeed, technology can have many educational contributions, but today they are taken
advantage of. For technology to be a steady contribution to education we must re
discover the meaning of progress and innovation. Tyler Cowen, in a Ted Talk titled
The Great Stagnation , says that for Innovation to be effective it must improve and
not just merely alter. This means that if we are continuing to be innovative we
must continually be improving for there to be any progress. For example, Apple
has released a better iPhone each year, but if you compare the phone to the
previous year you will not find many differences. Maybe the screen will be larger,
the apps may be remodeled, but most of the time the core processer is the same, the
camera has the same pixels and the phones screen still cracks if you put it in your
back pocket. This is innovation with no progress, presenting a shiny new phone that
