Management Challenges Of The Military Awards Based On Rank

Running Head: Military Awards Based on Rank 1
Military Awards Based on Rank 7
Abstract
This paper is about the problems the military is having on the fairness of military awards and the bias
towards junior officers and junior soldiers not getting the higher awards. First, should military awards
be based on rank or merit because hard work and merit is the reason for the award? Even though rank
may play a small factor, should military awards be based on rank or merit because hard work and

As Senior NCO?s we need to come up with ways to help fix the awards process to make it fair and
based on merit not rank or position.
According to ?AR 600 8 22 / 25 June 2015 para 3 1 c: The decision to award an individual a
decoration and the decision as to which award is appropriate are both subjective decisions made by the
commander having award approval authority. Awards for meritorious achievement or service will not
be based upon the grade of the intended recipient. Rather, the award should reflect both the
individual?s level of responsibility and his or her manner of performance. The degree to which an
individual?s achievement or service enhanced the readiness or effectiveness of his or her organization
will be the leading factor?.
I think the AR 600 8 22 is very clear on the guidance for awards and we need to change the way
awards are written and ensure the commander knows and understands the process.
My Personal Frustration with the Awards Process
As a Sergeant Major I have sat on numerous military awards boards and have written many
recommendations for awards for my soldiers and military personnel in my units. I was deployed to
Farah, Afghanistan with a combined joint force on a Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT) in 2007 as
the Civil Affairs Team NCOIC and Forward Operating Base SGM. The PRT missions was civil affairs

Essay On Raisin Raising
After a month without any sign of his ghost collaborator, he has a complete break down. His agent
who has had growing concerns of his sanity arrives at the house just as he is running about hestrically
shouting and turning over the furniture frantically in what seems a final desperate effort to reunite with
the phantom. This is enough reason to allow the physician and his two burly assistants brought along
by he agent to forcibly subdue him bodily and bring him to the waiting ambulance to be restrained and
driven to the hospital. But just as one of the assistants reaches for the door handle, it is enough for him
to break free and race back into the house. His destination is the cellar, where as in a dream the night
before he hangs himself. Feeling defeated, and knowing what he must do, he heads for the cellar but
he pauses suddenly at the piano and his eyes flash blood red with contempt and rage; he will indeed
hang himself, but not before he lifts the piano bench and smash the dam keys of this devil. ... Show

His anger suddenly dissolves into utter surprise and suptefied curiosity. He must have stood this way,
still with the bench raised for what seemed a frozen eternity. What are they, whose are they, where did
they come from, who wrote them? Slowly he lowers the bench back at the piano, gently and
absentmindedly, unable to move his wide eyes from the music strewn across the floor, moving his
eyes from one piece to the other, slowly moves his hands across the fallen sheets, as though the floor
was a ouji board, and he looking for some mystic answer. Simultaneously he selects a sheet and
slowly sets down at the piano still in surprise, but now equally pensive if even amused. He begans to

Strengths Of A Mediator Essay
Although private, introverted and difficult to know, the Mediator has many strengths that make them
who they are. The Mediator is very peace loving and prefers to not be in charge. Their shyness,
however, does not stop them from lending a helping hand to others. Mediators do not like to be
constrained by rules and are very open minded and flexible. When combined with their intuitive
nature, INFPs are very creative. As a mediator, this is true because I ve always been more interested in
more artsy things. I preferred things like drawing over math equations, and creative writing over
academic writing. Their passion and energy make them dedicated and hardworking in order to push
through hard times and pursue their goals. Though it is good to be work hard at a goal, Mediators like
myself sometimes get to the point where they become impractical, abandoning practical matters in
order to succeed. For example, in 7th grade, I worked on one science project so hard that I skipped
dinner and hours of sleep just to try and get a good grade. The test results are also true in the fact ...

With great effort, one can get near a Mediator, break their defenses and finally join the small group.
Strong, stable and full of great support for each other, these rewarding friendships are hard to match.
Mediators sometimes need to disappear for a while in order to re center themselves. The test results
are true in the fact that during this time, Mediators are usually dealing with big problems, yet they
evade support from friends and loved ones. In my life, I do that all the time, since I don t feel like
bothering my friends about my life. Mediators match up better with other Diplomat types and prefer to
make friends based on merit and shared principles rather than on proximity and mutual friends. This is
true since I would rather first make friends with people who like the same things than co workers at

Choice In Rappaccini s Daughter By Nathanial Hawthorne
Rappaccini s Daughter is indeed a unique story that could contain many messages, however, there are
more reasons behind Nathanial Hawthorne s character choice. Authors tend to have a motive or some
sort of message behind their story, Hawthorne is not an exception. Another factor to take note of is
how the story revolves around Rappaccini as according to Giovanni, his demeanor was that of one
walking among malignant influences, such as savage beats, or deadly snakes, or evil spirits
(Hawthorne 1142). Rappaccini was regarded as a distrustful gardener which suggests he was a man
not to be trusted. Giovanni questions the suspicious demeanor of Rappaccini himself which suggests
Hawthorne is perhaps trying to convey a message about doctors as well. Furthermore, Rappaccini s
Daughter was written to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Anthony Cerulli, a writer for the Journal for the Interdisciplinary Study of Literature in Winnipeg,
explains in detail of why Rappaccini envisioned doctors to be evil. According to Cerulli, Rappaccini s
Daughter is a story informed by Sophia and Nathaniel Hawthorne s fears: Beatrice is fatally poisoned
by her father, a reformer, and his rival, an orthodox physician (120). Moreover, all of the medicines no
matter the doctor, would combine to ultimately result in death. That was exactly the case within
Rappaccini s Daughter with Beatrice inhaling ... [the plants] various perfumes, as if she were one of
those beings of old classic fable (Hawthorne 1145). Beatrice, who represents Sophia, was poisoning
herself with drugs from various sources and at the end, she had dire consequences that affected her
way of life. Beatrice was poisoned and could not come back, moreover, there is a reason why the main
character, Giovanni, referenced Rappaccini s garden as the Eden of the present world (Hawthorne

The Agrarian Standard, By Wendell Berry
The Agrarian Standard, an essay written by Kentucky author Wendell Berry, was published in
Citizenship Papers on January 1st, 2002. The book this essay was published in served as a response to
9/11 and a reflection of our country. Berry resides in Port Royal, Kentucky, where he lives with his
wife Tanya. His family runs a non profit organization focused towards practicing agrarianism: a social
or political movement designed to bring about land reforms or to improve the economic status of the
farmer (Merriam Webster online dictionary.) Berry has been discussing his belief in agrarianism
throughout his 45 year literary career, through poems (Sabbaths 1979, IV), speeches ( It All Turns On
Affection ), and essays such as this one.

They are insults. (page 10, paragraph 2). The first quotation from the text leads readers to believe that
those who view things from a purely scientific, progressive standpoint are indifferent to a sense of
community and the knowledge of the land that comes with it. He is claiming that those at the forefront
of logical movements are only versed in general sciences, and are ignorant of the ways that certain
places can be taken care of to produce better crops and livestock. This attack on community is not
only negatively affecting farmers, but also those who are members of a small community. This
audience could include students, business owners, historians, and residents. The second quote targets
the sense of pride in small farmers, as Berry is implicitly referencing the progressively growing belief
that agrarianism is dying and comments such as in the quotes are becoming more common.
Furthermore, the logos used in The Agrarian Standard is not as credible as it could be, but nonetheless
effective. Although sources are lacking, Berry presents information in a precise way. Logos is notably
abundant in the introduction of the essay on the first page. Examples of information presented

The Human Gene Therapy
Gene therapy is a technique that uses new genes to treat or prevent disease by replacing or adding new
effective genes. This technique is aimed to allow doctors to treat genetic disorders without the
prescribing drugs or scheduling surgery to correct the disorder. Gene therapy isn t a fully effective
method as of today. It is still undergoing tests. Several of the most common tests include introducing a
new gene into the body to fight against a disease or disorder, replacing a mutated gene with a healthy
gene, and removing a mutated gene in the body that is not functioning as it should be. Gene therapy is
seen to be a fair treatment to diseases or disorders that have no other form of cure. It is sometimes
used for inherited disorders, certain viral infections, and certain cancers. But Gene Therapy is not a
certain option for treatment as of today. It is still under study as success rates are low. Genetic
disorders affect one out ten people. Symptoms vary with each disease or disorder as some can appear
early in a person s life, while others appear at an older age. Genetic disorders cannot be prevented as
they are passed on through a family s genes and is within the DNA unlike a regular disease is caused
by bacteria or a virus. There are two possible ways a genetic disorder can be passed on to the
offspring, or child. One way is caused by dominant genes in which only one gene is altered resulting
in the disorder or disease. The second way is caused by recessive genes in

Black Like Me By John Howard Griffin
In the book Black Like Me by John Howard Griffin the reader can experience life on the other side of
the color line through his words. John Howard Griffin was an author, more specifically was a
journalist and a specialist on race issues. His desire was to know if Southern whites were racist against
the Negro population of the Deep South, or if they really judged people based on the individual s
personality as they said. Because of this he felt that they had encouraged him to cross the color line
and write Black Like Me. He became another person so he could tell the story of being a black man in
the 1950s south. After his experience Griffin became a leading advocate in the Civil Rights
Movement. He did a lot to promote awareness of the racial situations. John Griffin, in the beginning of
the story is a white man from a nice neighborhood with a wife and two kids. He is medium height but
very large around the middle. However, Griffin wanted to experience firsthand the obstacles and
hardships of being black in America so that he may understand what life is like for blacks. Griffin
underwent a series of medical treatments to change his skin color temporarily to black. He went to his
dermatologist for help. He took pills to darken his skin tone; he used a sun lamp to darken it more.
The transformation was complete when Griffin shaved off his hair, looked in the mirror, and saw a
bald, middle aged black man. After he changed his skin tone he was ready to see how

Accidents, Illness and Emergencies in the Early Years Setting
Describe the policies and procedures for dealing with accidents, injuries, illnesses and other
emergencies that are in place within the school setting (P3).
These policies and procedures of accident, injury, illness and other emergencies are in place within the
school setting to govern working practices and provide quality and an agreed framework for action.
The management within the school setting is responsible for creating the policies and for checking that
they are being followed, and the staffs are responsible for implementing the policies.
As all staff and parents must be aware of these policies, you will often find them on a notice board, or
in the settings brochure. It is also important that new staff are informed of these ... Show more content

In order to maintain a clean and healthy environment this policy provides guidance for staff and
parents as to when children should or should not be in school if showing signs of illness. The health
and wellbeing of all children is of paramount importance to enable them to be successful learners and
to be the best that they can be.
Guidance
Children should not be brought to school if they are displaying signs of illness. If parents do bring
children to school and staff feel that they are unfit for school, parents / carers / emergency contact will
be contacted and requested to come and collect their child and requested not to return their child to
school until symptom free.
If a child is thought to be unwell while at school they will be seen by a qualified first aider as the
condition of the child needs to be assessed. This should be done in a kind and caring manner. The
Head Teacher of should be informed of any sick children.
Should a child become ill whilst at school, a member of staff will contact the parent / carer /
emergency contact. While awaiting the arrival of parents, the staff will ensure the comfort of the child
in the school office, taking appropriate action, which would include seeking medical advice if
necessary. If the child is in danger, the staff will seek medical advice immediately. Should a member
of staff consider an illness / situation to warrant immediate medical attention, they will report to a

Symptoms Of Dementia Essay
As we age, various disorders can affect how well our brains function. Dementia is one of the most
common brain disorders that seniors experience. Certain health conditions can cause dementia. For
example, chronic high blood pressure, previous stroke or blood vessel disease can lead to vascular
dementia.
Causes of Dementia
Many times, dementia is not the result of just one condition, but several. For instance, the combination
of Alzheimer s disease, strokes, Parkinson s disease and depression may lead to dementia.
Alzheimer s Disease
In the most recent U.S. census (2010), nearly 5 million people aged 65 and older were afflicted with
this disease. This condition causes brain cells in the area of the brain that controls memory to die. As

Treating depression may improve an individual s symptoms of dementia; nevertheless, it is also
possible that the depression is one of the early symptoms of vascular dementia or Alzheimer s disease.
Symptoms of Depression
Slow movement Forgetfulness
Irritability Neglecting personal hygiene
Slow speech Aggravated/Unexplained aches and pains
Depressed, but not sad Social withdrawal/Isolation
Fixation on death Weight loss
No appetite/skip meals Suicidal tendencies/attempts
Feeling worthless Concerns about being a burden to family
Self loathing Daytime sleepiness
Sadness Oversleeping
Insomnia Loss of interest in activities
Causes of Depression in the Senior Population
Retirement
Once retired, many individuals feel as if they have lost their purpose in life and/or lost their identity.
Encourage your friend or loved one to volunteer.
Increased Isolation/Loneliness
Isolation may occur due to a decrease in mobility, loss of driving privileges or a dwindling circle of
friends and family (due to death and/or relocation). Consider a weekly shopping trip to give your
friend or loved one something to look forward to.

Essay about Thirty Mile Fire
Thirty Mile Fire
On July 10, 2001 four U.S Forest Service Firefighters died while battling the thirty mile fire. Six
others injured including two hikers. The thirty mile fire was the second deadliest fire in Washington
state history.
The fire started by campers thirty miles north of Winthrop in Okanogan National Forest in the
Chewuch river valley. The fire was only 25 acres in size when twenty one Forest Service firefighters
were dispatched to the fire.
The Northwest Regular Crew number six was the first to be on the scene, there objective was

incident commander said the risk was to great to keep going down the road and through the fire. The
IC turned the van around and picked up the other four crew members and began to drive north up the
river canyon. The IC looked for safety zones and selected a site that was a rock scree above the road.
A sand bar and the river were below the road where the van was parked.
The (NWR) number six crew waited above the road and watched the fire grow and get closer. As the
crew watched the fire two civilians arrived in a truck that were camping above were the crew had
stopped. The crew never told the civilians that they were there because it was going to be a
deployment spot or a safety zone.
The crew was not prepared for the fire when it suddenly arrived. A wave of fire, heat, and smoke over
took them by surprise, Eight of the crew deployed their shelters on the road and the two civilians took
shelter with one of the crew members. The squad boss was high above the road in the rock scree
watching the fire. He ran down towards the road but couldn t get there before the fire arrived, He

Senior Seminar Project
For my senior seminar project, I wish to complete a community event. With about 10 kids from the
Youth Center on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 3:30 4:15, I plan to have a t ball clinic. I
plan to use the field at the Bow Youth Center as a location for my clinic, in which there will be 3
different stations hitting, throwing, and fielding. The stations will be run on Mondays and
Wednesdays, and on Fridays, there will be a t ball game in which kids will be able to put their learned
skills to use. For the volunteer hours, I plan to job shadow the PE teacher at Abbot Downing School in
Concord. I will drive down 4 times a week (Tuesday/Thursday from 11:45 to 1:00 and
Wednesday/Friday from 1:30 2:30) and complete my job shadow, which could involve anything from
me helping set up games and activities, helping run the activities during gym class, and cleaning up

positive effects of playing sports at a young age. I feel like this topic is important because sports have
always been prevalent in society, but in the past decade or so, there has been more of a push, or
movement, to get the younger generation involved in youth sports. I hope to find out the cause of this
major push to find out why it is important for kids to play sports at a young age. Through job
shadowing a PE teacher, along with running the t ball clinic, I hopefully will be able to see some of
the immediate positive effects of athletics on young kids, which could possible be anything such as
better attitudes, more friends made, and improved teamwork

A Veteran Banned From Military Housing
Doberman Pinschers and German Shepherd dogs mark 100 years with the AKC. Both German
Shepherds and Dobermans were the Devil Dogs in WWII (Mahood). Both dog breeds have given
years of service to the military. Both dogs have been faithful loyal companions and incredibly
intelligent. Both dogs are ranked in the top five for obedience and working intelligence ( Dog
intelligence rankings ). Yet, the German Shepherd is currently the military police s working dog and
its veteran companion, the Doberman Pinscher, is currently banned from living in military bases. How
is breed banning fair or even effective? In January 5th 2009, the Department of the Army released a
memorandum announcing a new pet policy for families living on military base ... Show more content

U.S. Army Veterinary Command (VETCOM) and the American Veterinary Medical Association
(AVMA) as well as many other organizations, believe that breed bans are not the answer and is an
inadequate solution to reducing dog bite fatalities on military installations. They believe that a
comprehensive approach versus breed bans is a more realistic method of controlling dog bites within a
community (Rolfe). Banning breeds is a knee jerk response that is inappropriate and ineffective. Any
breed can be dangerous; there was a case where a Dachshund was involved in killing an 87 year old
woman ( 2005 dog bite fatalities ). This policy assumes that all dogs of a certain breed is considered
dangerous and will bite, instead of acknowledging that most dogs will not. Another issue is breed
identification. According to the memorandum, the dog will be not be allowed if officials think it looks
like one of the banned breeds. That makes the policy unfair even to dogs that are not from the so
called dangerous breeds. For example, a Labrador Boxer mix, the result looks a lot like a Pit Bull, but
are in no way related. Or certain black and tan Labradors that look like Rottweilers. The deciding
factor is not breed, it is ownership. Irresponsible ownership in the form of poor care, neglect, etc.
results in a potentially dangerous dog. Irresponsible owners will just get a dog that is not banned

Venous Thromboembolism And Pulmonary Embolism
Venous Thromboembolism
Venous thromboembolism (VTE), including both deep venous thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary
embolism (PE), is reognised as the leading cause of preventable in hospital mortality. DVT is the
formation of blood clots in a deep vein usually the large veins in the leg or pelvis. The most serious
complication of a DVT is that the clot could dislodge and travel to the lungs, becoming a life
threatening blood clot in the lungs, pulmonary embolism. When a blood clot breaks loose and travels
in the blood, this is called a venous thromboembolism. An inflammatory reaction is usually present
mainly in the superficial veins and, for this reason this pathology is often called thrombophlebitis. It is
a disorder that can occur in all races and ethnicities, all age groups, and both genders. Despite a
marked increase in federal and national efforts to raise awareness and acknowledge the need for VTE
prevention, VTE continues to remain as an important and growing public health problem.
Unfortunately, VTE recurs frequently and is commonly overlooked, affects both hospitalized and non
hospitalized patients, and results in long term complications including chronic thromboembolic
pulmonary hypertension (CTPH) and the post thrombotic syndrome (PTS).
Venous thrombi, composed predominately of red blood cells but also platelets and leukocytes bound
together by fibrin, form in sites of vessel damage and areas of stagnant blood flow such as the valve
pockets of the deep veins of

What Went Wrong? section. Could most of these problems have been avoided? Why do you think
there are so many examples of poor quality in information technology projects?
Answer: Many of these problems could be avoided by performing better quality management. One
problem is that software and hardware is hitting the market too fast, so people selling these might be
more concerned about money than safety or wellbeing of the consumers or the company in the long
term.

became the third longest and the most flexible suspension bridge in the world of its time of 1900s with
a toatl length of 1810m. It was designed as a twin suspension bridge which located between Tacoma

Prior of this time, most bridge design were based on trusses, arches, and cantilevers to support heavy
freight trains. Automobiles were obviously much lighter. Suspension bridge design had been
envolving into producing bridges of maximum grace, lightness and flexibility which actually was
more suited for carrying lighter cars and not heavier train. Unfortunately, engineers did not fully
understand the response of the suspension bridge design to these poorly understand forces. The second
reson was due to the excitation of torsional mode. The Tacoma Narrows Bridge was built with shallow
plate girders instead of the deep stiffening trusses of railway bridges, in which trusses allowed wind to
pass through but plate girders, on the other hand, present an obstacle to the wind. As a result of its
design, it was proved that the bridge was too light and unstable. And causing alloping Gertieaction
which were driven by the wind were being experienced by the bridge.
During the morning of 7 November 1940, the wind with around 56.3 km/h (35 miles/h) excited
bridge`s transverse vibration mode to its maximum amplitude of vibration of 0.5 m within three hours.
Then the wind started increasing to 67.6 km/h (42 miles/h). One supporting cable at the mid span
snapped causing unbalanced loading. The bridge response thus changed to a 0.2 Hz torsional

The Factors That Contribute to the Restriction in Freedom...
CHAPTER 1
THE FACTORS THAT CONTRIBUTE TO THE RESTRICTION IN FREEDOM OF SPEECH AND
INFORMATION IN MALAYSIA TOWARDS IUKL S LOCAL STUDENTS
1.1 Introduction
Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold
opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any
media and regardless of frontiers. (The Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Article 19, 1948).
Freedom of speech and information is the one of the rights to every people in the civilized nation.
Freedom of speech and information can be describe as the freedom of each of the citizen to voice out
their opinion in the appropriate way and gain the access to the useful information without any ... Show

Sociological:
The un expose to the information and knowledge has made the students unaware about the importance
of the freedom of speech. Thus influence the interaction among them in their daily life.
Dutton s 2004 say: This publication argues for a fresh approach that moves beyond the limitations of
the information society concept that has been the most common way of signifying the broad,
interconnected range of social and economic changes tied to ICTs.
Rethinking access in the way proposed here opens a broader understanding of the term access in
relation to ICTs than the traditional definition that referred primarily to physical access to ICT
infrastructures, systems, and devices. It also widens the object of that access from information, as
implied by the term information society , to include people, services, and technologies. (p. 22)
The restriction to the access of information has made the student unaware about the right to the
freedom of speech and information. Thus, they will not make this as one of the topics of conversation
in their daily life interactions.
Legal:
The restriction in term of laws and legislation for the freedom of speech and information among the

All the treaties about human rights allow limitations on freedom of expression when national security

Australian Contract Law
ALTERNATIVES
Justice Paul Finn recently summarised, Australian contract law, unhelpfully, has six potential sources
the common law, equity, Commonwealth statute, State or Territory statute, incorporated international
instruments, for example the CISG, and, finally, the terms of the contract themselves. Having such a
diverse range of sources has, in my view, been a recipe for incoherence and for inertia in the legal
development [complexity] of contract as such (Codification of Contract Law: Some Lessons from
History, 2013). The proposed harmonious effort by the Attorney General has implications for the
global convergence of partnering legal systems and further poses practical questions as to what nature
any such contractual reform should ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

projects around the world, such as the African OHADA, the modernised German Law of Obligations,

attention to certain areas that are only applicable to the domestic law, and that are not governed by the
Conventions (CISG) provisions. Such areas include duress, illegality, control of unfair terms, plurality
of debtors and creditors, and third party rights etc. Essentially then, the Proposal encourages the
notion of expanding the subject matter or provisions of the CISG. (Law Wars: Australian Contract

The Priest Walchelin And The Hellequin s Hunt
While Phaedrus, the Bhagavad Gita, Epicurus Letters to Menoeceus, and the story of The Priest
Walchelin and the Hellequin s Hunt all offer slightly different theories on what happens after death,
they all agree that the death of the body is inevitable. However, the texts fail to give explicit
instruction on how mortals should best live their life so as to be best situated for existence after death.
Identifying how the texts instruct people to live life in a way that s meaningful despite its temporary
nature will help identify methods for benefitting humanity and thus retroactively reveal our
shortcomings. According to these texts, the only way to live a meaningful life is to focus on the
betterment of the soul. Because the soul will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Given that the soul outlives its host body, it must have somewhere to go once the body dies. The
uncertainty of where the soul goes after death is the greatest source of fear for mortals. Whether the
soul goes to a new body or to a place of divine reward or punishment, these texts reveal a change of
scenery for souls. While many would like to believe that if they follow a generally moral path they ll
be rewarded after they die, The Priest Walchelin and the Hellequin s Hunt challenges that idea. In this
story, a member of the living is shocked to see many highly regarded figures who... should have gone
straight to join the saints in heaven (Joynes 50) roaming the earth as punishment for sins of which the
public was unaware. Through this story it becomes apparent that previous modes of judging whether
one will be rewarded after death aren t reliable. This unexpected outcome is a source of terror and
apprehension for many other seemingly qualified men, such as Prince Arjuna in The Bhagavad Gita .
In the Gita, Arjuna vehemently protests killing any of his kin because hell is waiting for those whose
familiar rituals of righteousness are no more (The Bhagavad Gita 47). Prior to his moment of
weakness at the beginning of the text, Arjuna had been a heroic warrior (The Bhagavad Gita 43) and

The Duration And Outcome Of World War I
The duration and outcome of World War I produced various economic and social issues for Italy. Prior
to the war, Italy already had a weak economy, and the demands of the war only increased the
magnitude of their problems. Italy still relied heavily on agriculture, and their farms could not produce
to their potential because the majority of farmers were forced to leave their homes to fight in the war.
Underproduction and inflation became very significant in Italy s economy ( World War I , 2009).
Social tension was also very prominent after the war because citizens felt they had lost their sense of
pride and were unhappy with how their government leaders handled the war. In addition, Klaus

Benito Mussolini returned to Italy claiming to bring back Italy s pride and make Italy a well respected
state again ( Fascism, n.d.). Mussolini wanted to solve Italy s economic issues as well and pushed for
a strong, national leader that could unite the people. Mussolini s ideas appealed to Italian citizens
because Mussolini wanted to solve, or at least claimed to, all the problems they were facing at the
time. Mussolini began delivering emotional speeches in attempt to increase supporters, and in 1919,
Mussolini established the first fascist regime in Italy (Martz, 2010). The Fascist Party gained a lot of
attention and support because they blamed the unfair outcome of the war on the current, weak Italian
democracy (Pollard, 2004, p. 29). Citizens easily put the blame on the liberal politicians and sought
refuge from the opposing right wing political groups. Italy was very susceptible to Mussolini s Fascist
rule and ideologies because Italy was desperate for a change and solution to their instability. Martz
(2010) states that Benito Mussolini s charisma was a major contributor in establishing his support base
and a powerful fascist state. Mussolini began to promote the idea that the common will of the people
came before the will of the individual. Mussolini ensured that the citizens sacrifice and devotion to
Italy was the only way to achieve true stability and unity (Martz, 2010). Mussolini s charisma allowed

Language in Indian Writing in English
Language in Indian Writing in English
I am here to present on the topic Language in Indian Writing in English . Basically I will be talking
about the usage of language, the writing style, of blending language and culture and my analysis of it
in the text The God of Small Things by Arundhati Roy.
The story of the Indian English novel is really the story of a changing India. There was a time when
education was a rare opportunity and speaking English was unnecessary. The stories were already
there in the myths, in the folklore and the umpteen languages and cultures that gossiped, conversed,
laughed and cried all over the subcontinent. India has always been a land of stories, the demarcation
between ritual and reality being very narrow. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The God of Small Things is not written in a sequential narrative style in which events unfold
chronologically. Instead, the novel is a patchwork of flashbacks and lengthy sidetracks that weave
together to tell the story of the Kochamma family. The main events of the novel are traced back
through the complex history of their causes, and memories are revealed as they relate to each other
thematically and as they might appear in Rahel s mind, the main protagonist of the story. Although the
narrative voice is omniscient, or all knowing, it is loosely grounded in Rahel s perspective, and all of
the episodes of the novel progress towards the key moments in Rahel s life. This non sequential
narrative style, which determines the form of the novel, is an extremely useful authorial tool. It allows
Roy a great deal of flexibility as she chooses which themes and events are most important to pursue.
The author is able to structure her book so as to build up to the ideas and events at the root of the
Kochamma family s experience.
One of the first elements of Roy s writing that readers confront as they begin this novel is her creative
vocabulary creative in the sense that she makes up new words. In the first pages, for

Football, America s sport, which is loved from high school all the way to professional level of the

football has its positives to it, it also has its negatives. When people get too into it, they start betting on
it and start to not care about the players that are involved. This leads to the next point that players have
started to form a mentality of no pain, no gain . They play through pain and injuries, whether it be for
fans wanting their favorite teams and players to do well or that their love of the game has gone too far
to a point that they do not care how bad their damaging their bodies. The commodification overall has

Theme Of Carry In The Things They Carried
The idea of carrying in O Brien s The things they carried H.G. Wells once noted If we do not end war
war will end us . And indeed, the threat war poses is devastating physically or emotionally. The
Vietnam War is not an exception. O Brian s book, The Things They Carried, which is about the

the book says that They (the characters of the book) carried the soldier s greatest fear, which was the
fear of blushing. Men killed, and died, because they were embarrassed not to. ...They died so as not to
die of embarrassment . This is the paradigm of the concept of war and emotions the soldiers carry. The
book starts with a paragraph about Jimmy Cross keeping and carrying letters from Martha; they are
not love letters, but they are very precious for Jimmy. He reads and reads the letters imagining
romantic meetings with Martha; He wants her to love him. By keeping the letters, jimmy Cross tries to
keep the memorable things and emotions that connects him with Martha. However, besides their
feelings, the soldiers carry all the necessary things they may need when being far from home; the

American Institutional And Intellectual Life Essay
The issue of slavery in the United States has been hotly debated for centuries. Historians continuously
squabble over the causes and effects of America s capitalistic, industrial form of slavery. But two of
the most heavily discussed questions are whether the institution of slavery destroyed African culture in
America, and whether it reduced slaves to a child like state of dependency and incompetence.
Anthropologist Melville Herskovits, and historian Stanley Elkins both weigh in on this debate:
Herskovits with, The Myth of the Negro Past, and Elkins with, Slavery: A Problem in American
Institutional and Intellectual Life. In, Slavery: A Problem in American Institutional and Intellectual
Life, Elkins asserts that African culture was all but destroyed by a repression of the slaves rights, at
the hands of their masters. He claims that complete dependence on their masters and a lack of
collective cultural identity and family bonds, reduced slaves to a child like state of helplessness and
ignorance, and childish behavior called the Sambo . Herskovits takes a different stance in this debate.
In, The Myth of the Negro Past, he claims that African culture was not completely destroyed by
slavery, and that the Sambo stereotype was no more than a myth or at least a gross generalization. He
uses slave revolts and the persistence of African culture in American in music, dance, and language as
evidence to prove this. Stanley Elkins argues in, Slavery: A Problem in American

Compare And Contrast Paracetamol And Aspirin
Compare and contrast the mechanism of action and therapeutic uses of aspirin and paracetamol
Aspirin, also known as acetylsalicylic acid, was among the earliest drugs to be synthesized and is still
commonly used worldwide today. Aspirin is useful as an anti pyretic, anti platelet, analgesic, as well
as, anti inflammatory drugs. Its main clinical importance now is in the treatment of cardiovascular
disease. It can be orally administered and is rapidly absorbed as the liver metabolizes 75%, but can t
be given to human beings under the age of 16. The elimination of aspirins metabolite, salicylate,

By inhibiting the COX enzyme it controls pain by controlling the signals before they reach the brain.
The analgesic mechanism of paracetamol has been suggested that the metabolites of paracetamol such
as NAPQI, which act on TRPA1 receptors in the spinal cord, suppress the signal transduction from the
superficial layers of the dorsal horn, therefore alleviating pain.
The exact mechanisms by which COX is inhibited in various circumstances are still being discussed
and this is because of the differences in activity of aspirin, paracetamol and other NSAIDs. With these
differences it has been proposed that further COX enzymes may exist. A theory of how paracetamol
may work is by the inhibition of the COX 3 isoform (a COX 1 splice variant). COX 3 has been
expressed in dogs and it shows that this enzyme shares similarities to other COX enzymes, while
producing pro inflammatory chemicals and is selectively inhibited by paracetamol. But research has

Medicare paid for 96.6% of the bill. The remainder was paid by Medigap, a plan covered by her
premium (Cleland).
Since the price Social Security pays to insure a senior is $197, claiming a senior relative would be
cheaper than claiming a spouse, so the city can afford it. The medications and procedures would still
be covered. These particular plans of coverage have a very low bill for medications. Prices range from
a maximum co pay of $35 for brand name drugs down to just $4 for generic drugs (AWC). This would
also put the Social Security check in the elder s pocket, thus it could be spent on taxable merchandise
for economic revenue. These

Starbuck Makes Me Mad
According to Dictionary.com, the term mad can be defined in many different ways. A person who is
mad can be mentally ill or deranged, overcome by desire or eagerness, greatly provoked or irritated,
extremely foolish or unwise, or wildly excited or confused. (Dictionary.com, 2015). In Herman
Melville s book Moby Dick, Captain Ahab states, What I ve dared, I ve willed; and what I ve willed, I
ll do! They think me mad Starbuck does; but I m demoniac, I am maddened! That wild madness that s
only calm to comprehend itself! The prophecy was that I should be dismembered; and Aye! I lost this
leg. I now prophecy that I will dismember my dismember. Now then, be the prophet and the fulfiller
one. That more than ye, ye great gods, ever were. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If using the definitions of overcome by determination or eagerness, deranged, and foolish and unwise,
then it would be easy to say yes Captain Ahab was mad. Supported by observation of crewmembers of
the Pequod and the soliloquy of Ahab himself, it is, again, easy to agree Ahab was mad. In the case of
Moby Dick, Captain Ahab was overcome by determination and eagerness to kill the white
spermwhale, Moby Dick, who caused Captain Abab to lose his leg during their encounter. Captain
Ahab was so focused on meeting the whale again that he appeared deranged and at times foolish and
unwise. He put the lives of his crewmembers in jeopardy because of his infatuation of killing this
whale. Not having the concern of others can also be a definition of someone who is mad. Captain
Ahab in Herman Melville s, Moby Dick, was, indeed,

compulsive talker and she is also behaving inappropriately in the classroom while I am training. To
find an effective solution and deal with this problem I will initially make her aware of the
unacceptable conduct that she is displaying. I will then implement proximity control and increase her
interest by using humor or connecting my lesson theme to some alternative material that may
particularly attract her attention and interest. Before contacting her parents, I will approach her in
private and with thoughtfulness explain her all my directions and procedures for disobedience to give

Do Video Games Help Students Essay
Do video games help students in the classroom? This is a question that I have been pondering about
because I am part of a group of about 150 million Americans that play video games. Alicia Ault, an
author of a video gaming and learning article wrote that the biggest converts to video games are
educators, who are using them to teach such subjects as history, geography, science and math and to
hone students critical thinking abilities (Ault). According to a Pew Internet American Life Project
survey, half of the experts surveyed predicted that gamification, or the use of games by educators and
companies to turn work into a game, would become a major factor in education, health care and the
workplace by 2020 (Pew Research Center). I believe that this gamification going on throughout
schools could help student learn. Elizabeth Box, a civics teacher in a Florida middle school, started
noticing a decline in kids engagement. They didn t care, their parents didn t care, and they were
failing. Box knew that she needed to do something in order to make them study again. So, she
researched online and found a blog called Teched up Teacher by Chris Aviles that made her class into
a video game. Her classroom went from a 30 percent assignment completion rate to 100 percent. In
the end, all of her students get their work done, everyone logs in outside of school, and every single
one is passing her civics class. This shows that gaming is helping out teachers complete their tasks of

Background of Csr
Background of Corporate Social Responsibility

1.1 Evolution of csr: A Short History
We believe that the leading global companies of 2020 will be those that provide goods and services
and reach new customers in ways that address the world s major challenges including poverty, climate
change, resource depletion, globalization, and demographic shifts.
Niall Fitzgerald, former ceo Chairman, Unilever
Debates over the concept of csr span from the 1930s to the 21st century. A debate over the
responsibilities of corporate managers and directors to their shareholders and other groups directly
influenced by corporations took place in North America during the 1930s, marking one of the first

Companies without a capacity to manage social and environmental performance will be at a
significant disadvantage compared to companies that aggressively develop a capacity to engage in
stakeholder dialogue and effectively manage csr.

Mapping Corporate Social Responsibility in Trinidad And Tobago
Also in many developed and developing countries, corruption is still widespread and there is a
general lack of transparency and accountability which all give momentum to the emergence of csr.
Finally, the growing awareness that csr is good for business has also aided its development. While the
primary role of corporate executives is to maximize shareholder value, the global marketplace, where
reputations matter deeply, dictates that shareholder value increasingly depends on corporate values.
Business leaders understand that practising corporate responsibility affects their corporate reputation
and brand image. Managers are becoming more and more aware that socially responsible investors

and activist shareholders can impact the bottom line. For example, company executives recognize that

Eurotunnel Vs. The Ferries Case Summary
Eurotunnel vs. the Ferries Case Analysis
Marketing Problem:
The main problem faced by Eurotunnel s senior management is that they have not developed a
competitive pricing strategy to increase its passenger and freight travel market share.
Case Solution:
Eurotunnel should use a market penetration pricing strategy at all times to gain freight customers. It
should use a market penetration pricing strategy during non peak periods and a premium pricing
strategy during peak periods with passenger car customers.
Rationale:
This strategy works best for Eurotunnel to gain market share for three main reasons: * Passenger
preference among Le Shuttle users * Patterns among peak travelers * Price elasticity of freight traffic
... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During the common peak travel periods, Eurotunnel will be able to compete on its capacity and speed
competencies rather than price.
Freight users in general go out of their way to get the lowest cost of trip and are very price elastic.
Since trucking companies would take a longer ferry route in order to reduce the cost, it can be inferred
that by offering a cost even slightly below that of ferries at all times to freight transporters, Le Shuttle
will be their preferred choice. By entering the market with a price lower than the ferries, the trucking
companies, which have an estimated price elasticity of demand of 3 to 4, will flock to the lower price
and will unlikely ever return to the higher priced provider. Paired with other factors valued by the
truckers, it is likely that a low price offer from the tunnel would quickly make it the first choice in
channel crossing among truckers themselves as well as trucking companies.
Eurotunnel will be able to support the increase in customers as well as the market penetration pricing
strategy. Eurotunnel currently has the capacity to accommodate 105% of the channel crossing market.
Thus, even in peak periods, Eurotunnel will be capable of accommodating the influx of passengers
without compromising on schedules or service. Eurotunnel also has low marginal cost per customer,

A lot have people have been nervous about their freshman year but eventually we all make friends and
end off the year with a lot of great weird and sometimes depressing memories.
This is the case for Charlie from the book Perks of being a wallflower by Stephen Chbosky.
People should read this book because it teaches the importance of friends and family and it teaches
that everybody has personal issues to go through. People should read this book because it teaches the

Patrick and make him a bit more sociable for example in a part of the novel he takes part in something
called the rocky horror picture show in front of hundreds of people.By the end Charlie is now able to

about friendship and why it s important.Through socializing more and making new friends this shows
that perks of being a wallflower teaches friendship and why it s important.

Private Equity Investment
Private Equity (PE) investment is an asset class that is bought and sold in a privately negotiated
transaction and is not publicly traded on a stock exchange. This investment is normally completed by
private equity firm, venture capital firm, or an informal investor named business angel. They raise
funds and invest it on behalf of their investors. There are four most well known investment strategies,
i.e. venture capital (VC), leveraged buy out (LBO), mezzanine debt and distressed debt investments. It
is distinguishable that VC usually targets the start up firms while LBO purchases majority control in a
developed and mature firm. The total global PE assets under management (AUM) in 2013 has climbed
up to $3,466 billion, the highest value to date and has remained a steadily growth throughout the past
6 years after financial crisis (Appendix figure 1). This is partially attributed to a sharp decline of exit
activity resulted from crisis, led to more capital calls, improved fundraising and thus expansion of
AUM.
Between 1990 and 2008, capital committed in PE were growing at 20% compounding rate annually,
with some acquired firms have become popular due to the popularity of PE, such as Domino s Pizza
and Toys R . However, following the financial crisis in 2008, the private equity industry has been
confronting momentous challenges yet continuous to recover with signs of performance rebounding. It
has been proved to outperform the public market over the long term. While it is
