Indications of using elevators REMOVAL OF TEETH REMOVAL OF ROOTS Impactions Root fractured at –gingival line Malposed teeth - midlength Decayed teeth - apical third Tilted teeth Roots left in alveolus from previous extractions

PARTS OF ELEVATOR

Classification Classified into two types based on two factors- use and form According to USE- Designed to reflect the mucoperiosteum – periosteal elevator Designed to remove the entire tooth Designed to remove roots broken at gingival line Designed to remove roots broken off halfway the apex Designed to remove apical third of root

Acording to FORM- Straight elevators- straight apex Angular elevators- right and left types Crossbar elevators – handle is placed at right angle to shank to provide more force with less pressure exerted
