DEFINITION According to Selye (1956), "Stress is defined as the pressure experienced by a person in response to life demands”.
DEFINITION Stressor is the stimuli proceeding or precipitating a change. It may be internal (fear, guilt) or external (trauma, peer pressure, etc ).

THEORY NO. 1 SELYE'S GENERAL THEORY OF STRESS During 1930's and 40's Selye performed the first extensive studies on stress responses. Selye defined stress as a physiological phenomenon. The bodily changes established when a person is exposed to nervous tension, physical injury, infection, cold, heat, x-rays or anything are also called stress .
THEORY NO. 2 HOLMES AND RAHE'S MODEL RELATING LIFE CHANGES TO ILLNESS They studied on relationship between change and illness. Change is a form of stress requiring both psychological and physical adaptations. Adapting to change consumes energy beyond that needed to maintain a steady state of life. They developed the higher a person's life change score, the greater the likelihood that an illness will subsequently develop.
THEORY NO. 3 LASARUS'S THEORY OF STRESS AND COPING This theory emphasizes that cognitive appraisal is central in determining what is stressful and in coping with stress. In the process of coping, the individual shapes as well as responds to a demand or stress. Coping may change the stressful experience and thus may influence what happens next.
NEED OF STRESS MANAGEMENT In the past decade, the news headlines have definitely made it clear that the need for stress management should be one of the top agendas in modern day society. Living today is a lot tougher than it was even in the days of the great depression, stomach and intestinal ulcers, sleep disorders, insomnia during their busy days . Today stress management is important in everyone's lives. It's necessary for long happy lives with less trouble that will come about. There are many ways to deal with stress ranging from the dealing with the causes of stress to simply burning off its effects.

TECHNIQUES OF STRESS MANAGEMEANT Stress management involves controlling and reducing the tension that occurs in stressful situations by making emotional and physical changes. Some of the techniques of stress management are:
LAUGHTER Benefits of laughter: Laughter lowers blood pressure. It provides good cardiac conditioning especially for those who are unable to perform physical exercise. Reduces stress hormones. Laughter triggers the release of endorphins-body's natural painkillers. Produces a general sense of well-being.
AUTOGENIC TRAINING It is a relaxation technique developed by the German psychiatrist Johannes Heinrich Schultz and first published in 1932. The technique involves the daily practice of sessions that last around 15 minutes, usually in the morning, at lunch time, and in the evening. Effects of autogenic training: Lowers the blood pressure. S lows the heart rate. P romotes the functions of the immune system.
GETTING A HOBBY Hobby is an activity or interest that is undertaken for pleasure or relaxation, typically done during one's leisure time . eg : collecting, games, outdoor recreation, gardening, performing the arts, reading, cooking and etc.
MEDITATION Meditation is a holistic discipline during which time the practitioner trains his or her mind in order to realize some benefit. Meditation is generally a subjective, personal experience and most often done without any external involvement.
DEEP BREATHING This deep breathing is marked by expansion of the abdomen rather than the chest when breathing. BENEFIT: It is healthier and fuller way to ingest oxygen. Hyperventilation A nxiety disorders. STEPS: Sit or lie comfortably, with loose garments. Put one hand on your chest and one on your stomach. Slowly inhale through your nose. stomach expand with your hand. Slowly exhale through pursed lips. Rest and repeat.
YOGA NIDRA Yoga- nidra may be rendered in English as "yoga sleep". These aspects may include relaxation and guided visualization techniques as well as the psychology of dream, sleep and yoga. The practice of yoga relaxation has been found to reduce tension and anxiety.

Research article: A review of the effectiveness of stress management skills training on academic vitality and psychological well-being of college students Objective : The study was carried out to review the effectiveness of stress management training on the academic life and mental well-being of the students of Shahed University.
. Methodology : The method used was quasi-experimental with a pretest-posttest plan and control group. Therefore, a total of 40 students of Shahed University of Tehran were selected by a convenience sampling method and were organized into two groups: experimental and control group. Both groups were pretested by using an academic vitality inventory and an 84-question psychological well-being inventory. Then, the experimental group received stress management skills training for ten sessions, and the control group did not receive any intervention. Next, both groups were post-tested, and the data were analyzed with SPSS-21 software by using descriptive and inferential statistical methods. Findings : The findings showed that the stress management skills training significantly contributed to promoting the academic vitality and psychological well-being of students (p < 0.001). Conclusions of research: It was concluded from this research that teaching the methods for dealing with stress was an effective strategy to help students exposed to high stress and pressure, and this was due to its high efficiency, especially when it was held in groups, had a small cost, and it was accepted by the individuals.
