Define sentence? A sentence is a group of words which give complete meaning in sense . Examples: Am I engineer an. (Incorrect) I am an engineer. (Correct)

What is a sentence pattern? A sentence pattern is an arrangement of words . This arrangement needs to be in a grammatically correct structure . It means the placement of verbs and nouns should be correct to form a meaningful sentence. Without the correct placement of words, you can not express your thoughts properly while speaking. A sentence pattern refers to the different types of phrases and clauses used in the sentence and how the writer change the structure of the sentence.

Phrases and clauses Phrases – group of connected words, but it is not a complete sentence because it is missing a subject and / or a verb . Phrases are just a one components that makes up a complete sentence. Clauses – a subject (actor) and a verb (action). There are two types of clauses. An independent clause is a complete thought. It can stand alone as a complete sentence. A dependent clauses cannot stand alone as a complete sentence (even though it may contain a subject and verb). It begins with a subordinating conjunction (because, when, while, after ect .,)

What are the types of sentence pattern? There are four types of sentence pattern. These include Simple Compound Complex Compound-complex

Essential elements of sentence pattern Subject (S) Verb (V) Object (O) Complement (C) Adjunct (A)

Subject [S] Denotes what the sentence is about Dore of the action / topic of the sentence Subject performs the action in a sentence. (It can be a noun/ pronoun/ infinitive/ gerund ) A subject is a noun A person, place or thing Or a pronoun A word that takes the place of a noun She/he/they It

Cont., It answer the questions. What? Who? Examples: Raghul won the match. ( who won the match?) The cat killed the rat. ( who killed the rat?) A rat is killed by the cat. ( what is killed by the cat?)

Verb [V] verbs are “doing” or “action” words A verb is a word that shows the action or state-of-being of the subject of the sentence.
