Sexual disorders Sexual dysfunction is difficulty experienced by an individual or partners during any stage of normal sexual activity, including physical pleasure, desire, preference, arousal, or orgasm. The World Health Organization defines sexual dysfunction as a "person's inability to participate in a sexual relationship as they would wish". A diagnosis of sexual dysfunction under the DSM-5 requires a person to feel extreme distress and interpersonal strain for a minimum of six months. Sexual dysfunction can have a profound impact on an individual's perceived quality of sexual life. 2023 Sexual Disorders 2

Female sexual arousal disorder 2023 Sexual disorders 3 Female sexual arousal disorder (FSAD) is a disorder characterized by a persistent or recurrent inability to attain sexual arousal or to maintain arousal until the completion of a sexual activity. The diagnosis can also refer to an inadequate lubrication-swelling response normally present during arousal and sexual activity. The condition should be distinguished from a general loss of interest in sexual activity and from other sexual dysfunctions, such as the orgasmic disorder (anorgasmia) and hypoactive sexual desire disorder, which is characterized as a lack or absence of sexual fantasies and desire for sexual activity for some period of time. Although female sexual dysfunction is currently a contested diagnostic, it has become more common in recent years to use testosterone-based drugs off-label to treat FSAD. It is a subtype of female sexual dysfunction and occurs in distress due to the inability to attain or maintain adequate vaginal lubrication.

Female orgasmic disorder Female Orgasmic Disorder, also known as anorgasmia is a type of sexual dysfunction in which a person cannot achieve orgasm despite adequate stimulation. Among all women, the frequency and intensity of orgasms vary. Also, for any individual, orgasms can be different from one time to the next. The type and amount of stimulation needed to have an orgasm also varies. Multiple factors may lead to anorgasmia. These include relationship or intimacy issues, cultural factors, physical or medical conditions, and medications. Treatments can include education about sexual stimulation, sexual enhancement devices, individual or couple therapy, and medications. 2023 Sexual Disorders 4

Penetration disorder Penetration disorder includes pain during sexual intercourse or other sexual activity that involves penetration and involuntary contraction of muscles around the opening of the vagina, making sexual intercourse painful or impossible. Most women with penetration disorder are anxious about and cannot tolerate insertion of any object into the vagina such as from sexual intercourse, a tampon, or a pelvic examination. Women may develop this disorder after experiencing painful intercourse (due to vaginal dryness or sexual trauma), or there may be no known cause. Lubricants, topical anesthetic (numbing) gels, exercises to relax pelvic muscles, exercises to make women feel comfortable with vaginal contact by themselves or their partner, or pelvic physical therapy may help. Many women with penetration disorder also have difficulty becoming aroused and/or difficulty reaching orgasm. 2023 Sexual Disorders 5

Male hypo active sexual desire disorder Hypoactive sexual desire disorder is characterized by a low desire for sex and absent sexual thoughts or fantasies. Male hypoactive sexual desire disorder is sometimes associated with erectile and/or ejaculatory problems. Men with this disorder may also have difficulty obtaining an erection, which can lead to a reduced interest in sex. Men with hypoactive sexual desire disorder often report that they no longer initiate sexual activity and that they are minimally receptive to a partner's attempt to initiate. 2023 Sexual Disorders 6

Erectile disorder Erectile dysfunction (ED), also referred to as impotence, is a form of sexual dysfunction in males characterized by the persistent or recurring inability to achieve or maintain a penile erection with sufficient rigidity and duration for satisfactory sexual activity. It is the most common sexual problem in males and can cause psychological distress due to its impact on self-image and sexual relationships. Notable predictors of ED include aging, cardiovascular disease, diabetes mellitus, high blood pressure, obesity, abnormal lipid levels in the blood, hypogonadism, smoking, depression, and medication use. 2023 Sexual Disorders 7
